Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

We recently bought a new house for which I purchased second hand garage organizer. The problem was that the garage had about a concrete lip around the perimeter. My hubs was going to build a base “bench” for the units to sit on top of to help lift them above the lip, but I had the idea to install a 2×4 filler on the back of the cabinets which would serve to purposes: 1) fill the gap from the back of the cabinet to the wall due to the cement lip and 2) serve as an anchor for the cabinets. It worked great!!

I feel like I copy the ideas of others. This seems silly, but one of my most original ideas was cutting down an empty 1/2 gallon plastic milk container to make a drip catcher for my 3 & 5 gallon coolers. I cut it to shape then cut out a hole so it would hang over the spigot. You know how those things drip & leave sticky puddles of lemonade & koolaid on the floor? My little drip catcher fixed that problem. You can also make on with a 2 liter soda bottle, but I thought the flat side on the 1/2 gallon made it set sturdier against the counter.

I used to use a cheap fabric sash hung on the wall as an earring holder. Now that I have a baby I don’t wear earrings all that often or need that much space for them, but I’ve been eying the picture frame and wire mesh versions that seem to be everywhere lately.

Not sure if it counts as ‘creative’ or just ‘weird,’ but we recently moved into a smaller apartment. Attempting to toddler-proof two computers in the old place was a nightmare, and there wasn’t room in the new living room for them anyway, so we put the desks in our closet and ran a power strip in. Now when they’re not in use, they’re also unplugged and out of sight. Much more attractive, and the kiddo isn’t opening doors yet!

Our bedroom only has outlets on the far wall from the bed. When we got tired of getting up to turn out the light (or trying to decide whose turn it was), I got an extension cord to run around the outside of the room for some nightstand lamps…problem solved!

My favorite spurts of creativity are when I find that perfect item to makeover! Lately it’s been grabbing up random things at Goodwill and other thrift stores and making them over with a little TLC (usually spraypaint). Spraypaint truly works wonders! Whenever I feel the need to do something creative, I grab a can!

This weekend I’m spraypainting my wrought iron headboard RED! (:

The most clever idea I can come up with was not one I can take credit for; I saw it on Pinterest. I hung a shoe organizer on the back of the door from the kitchen to the garage and put all the things in there that I use on a regular basis – tape, matches, screwdriver set, measuring tape, dog brush etc. It’s so handy and it cost less than $10!

IDEA ME! I am not that creative, but lately I have made a few home-made toys for my 14 month old. One involved a kleenex box and some left over fabric. I just put all the left over fabric pieces in the kleenex box and he loves pulling them out and then putting them back in. I also added a few other little things like an old necklace that has chunky beads (not too small). Surprisingly he really loved it.

IDEA ME!! When making space in our 1295 sq ft home for our second baby boy, we bought a CL midcentury dresser and refinished it, and I was planning to store my craft stuff in there (that was formerly in the to-be-nursery closet). And then I realized that if I moved all of the linens in the (shallow-shelved) linen closet to the dresser, I could store my craft stuff in the closet, and both the linens and the craft stuff would fit better than it ever did in the other places. Sounds simple, but our linen dresser and craft closet are SO much more convenient – glad I rethought that!!

I would say one of my creative ways to save money was instead of paying for a large art piece to fill a huge, empty wall was to stretch an old sheet over a frame made from 1″ x 1″ boards and paint it in an “abstract” way. Love!

Idea me! My most creative solution to a problem was breaking our wedding reception up into two parts – a BBQ at the park we married at and drinks/dessert at the more expensive reception hall we’d already rented – when the costs of doing everything at the reception hall started making my stomach turn knots.

I needed a more accessable place for my measuring cups and spoons. They tend to get dis-organized and lost in drawers and a cabinet shelf wasn’t working much better. I put rows of 3M hooks on the inside a cabinet door and hung them all. Easy, organized, cheap, easy to get to, and everyone that sees it is impressed with the simplicity.
