Fab Freebie: Let The Rain Fall Down

***This giveawy is no longer accepting entries***

By now you all probably know that we try to make the best out of a seemingly bad situation. So when someone tries to rain on your parade, what do we say? Catch it in a rain barrel and put that H2O to good use!

Which is why we’re super excited to bring you this week’s giveaway sponsored by The Rain Barrel Company. They sell a range of pro-sustainability products (composters, etc.) and this week they’re offering up one of their namesake products to one lucky reader…

RainBarrelCoCascastaTerraCotta

Yup it’s a fancy pre-made professional rain barrel which means you all can jump on the collect-your-own-rainwater bandwagon with us without even having to go barrel diving like I did. After all, who isn’t down with saving the planet and money on their water bill? Oh and you can learn more about these amazing pre-made rain barrels on the Rain Barrel Company website since the winner gets their pick of the bunch:

RainBarrelCompanyGiveawayOptions

  • PRIZE:  One of the three rain barrels (and stand) show above (either the Californian, Mocha Cascata or Terra Cotta Cascata, valued at $183 – $337 a pop!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “RAIN ON ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us your favorite way to make the most of a rainy day. Do you catch a movie? Curl up with a book (or blog)? Or just sit and dream about filling up a rain barrel?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One and only one
  • PRIZE SHIPS: USA and Canada
  • THE USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

PS: Anyone catch the subtle Hilary Duff / Laguna Beach theme song reference in the title? Yeah, um, me neither..

Psst, have you updated your bookmarks / reader / blogroll / outgoing links / Twitter/ Facebook yet? If you’re still heading our way using old TYH methods, they won’t last for long so don’t forget to make the switch! We’d hate to lose a single one of you freebie-lovin’ folks.

    Rain on me!

My favorite rainy day activity is to catch up on my DVR’d Food Network and HGTV shows.
Also is it really lame that I totally caught the Laguna Beach reference in the title? Haha!

    Rain on Me!!!

I love climb onto the back of our couch which faces a beautiful picture window, pull the curtains to the side and watch every lightning bolt with my kitties and my husband. I love when the thunder rumbles the house and we curl up even closer.

My husband and I just moved to Virginia from SoCal, so rain is still exciting (and a little bit baffling) for us after living in perfect weather. :)

    Rain on me!

Rainy days are best spent on a cozy couch with a favorite book and a warm beverage. I find it’s also good to throw in a spontaneous nap sometimes.

My dad used to take me out onto the front porch during a thunder and lightning storm. We would sit on the porch swing, smell the air and watch the show. I don’t have a porch on my own home, but I do still sit in the front room by a big, open window and try to recreate the moments with him.

    RAIN ON ME!

To make the most of a rainy day… well, here in central Texas we are dealing with “exceptional” drought. Nearly every day this summer so far has brought temps above 100 degrees, with almost no rain. The last two years have been obscenely dry. Our house does not have gutters (it’s on our To Do list when we can afford it), but we’ve figured out the places on the roof where most of the water rushes off onto the ground.

So to make the most of a rainy day, you’ll find us darting in and out of the house, strategically placing large buckets where they can fill rainwater which we can then use on our parched garden. Because of the drought, we’ve pretty much given up on the grass, and now we’re just watching it die.

Um yeah, we need rain. And a big rain barrel in which to collect it.

My husband and converted me to rainy day hikes. It is actually really fun once you get out there and start. Sometimes it doesn’t even feel so bad under the cover of the forest trees. Plus, when you get home and make a yummy cup of tea to warm up, it feels super rewarding!
