Fab Freebie: I’ll Drink To That

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.

Mikasa Wine Glasses

Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.

Mikasa Crystal Glassware

  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…

  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

The best toast I heard was from a bride’s father…it was so very touching, but funny too. You could tell that he really felt that he wasn’t just losing a daughter, but gaining an awesome son!

Sadly, the best toasts I’ve heard have been on tv or in a movie.

We actually got the low ball glasses of this set as a wedding gift and love them!

At our wedding the best man had me and my groom unwrap a set of custom foam fingers as part of his toast. They had our names and wedding date on them (my husband collects foam fingers at stadiums he visits). Then he finished with: “What’s better than two foam fingers? . . . Two hundred foam fingers!” He had 200 foam fingers made for all our wedding gifts as a surprise to us! It was such a great favor for everyone to take home and they were quite a hit on the dance floor later on. Let’s just say we had many hilarious pictures with foam fingers captured that night. :)

A tradition in my family is that we have to clink every person’s glass when we are toasting. No matter how many of us there are. My boyfriend thought it was silly when he first came around, but now he knows the routine :)

I’ve heard that it’s really only the horribly bad toasts that are memorable. Maybe it’s a good thing then that the details of the toasts I’ve heard haven’t stuck with me – I can’t remember!

One that comes to mind (I’ve seen many) is one done by the groom’s brother…who wrapped a ball and chain. It was all done in good fun, and provided us all a laugh!

I’ve been to too many weddings where the best man tells stories that should not be told in the presence of grandmothers! One I specifically remember was the time the groom peed in the fridge thinking it was the bathroom after one too many drinks.

My husband gave a toast at our wedding to all our family and friends. He thanked them for their support in our lives and asked for their encouragement and help in our marriage. I did not know he was going to do this so I was surprised but it was the sweetest speech!

I’ll drink to this or that!”

I hate public speaking but when my best friend of forever got married (and I was the MOH mind you), I felt it was a necessity to give a toast. So I stressed over what to say forever.. had this nice sentimental thing planned out, but when it came time to speak I kind of freaked out. I am better at making people laugh anyway so. I started to talk a little about our friendship and then got to the major punch line. Now let me preface this with the fact that this girl weighs no more than 100lbs soaking wet and loves hot dogs (kinda gross I know) but she probably eats a least one a day. So I was finishing my comment and I said that the best part about finally getting to meet her now husband was that Quincy was the ketchup to Nicole’s hotdog. Everyone burst out laughing and Nicole cheered. I then said I know you will taste good forever. That is the only toast I have given so far and I think it was pretty good.

PS – I love these glasses and would love to own some.

The best toast ever was one that my husband did at my friend’s wedding – he told the ENTIRE room that he met these two girls training at a restaurant (me and my friend), and he really liked one…but since she went home for the summer, he was stuck with the other one…and MARRIED HER (therefore … me!).

The whole room (me included) cracked up. =)

At my wedding, our best man and maid of honor each gave a toast. After my mom and my father-in-law gave a toast, my husband wanted to tell everyone “thank you” for coming. He told everyone that he can’t wait to get our lives together started and hope to have kids soon. I must have had the most shocked look on my face. I thought we were waiting a few years!!!! News to me!

My brother in-law gave a nice speech at our wedding. Filled with sweet compliments and great stories…and then he finished it off by saying- “I toast your marriage and I hope that all your ups and downs may be between the sheets!” It totally caught us and everyone else off guard, but was hilarious! :)

My favorite toast is actually one that I wasn’t present for. My hubby was best man for his brother; so he rehearsed it in front of me a lot. We worked together at the time, but didn’t start dating until 2 months after his brother’s wedding!

Toasts are always hard. At my sister’s wedding, I just improvised, and said something along the lines of “good luck adjusting to our family!” to my brother in law. My grandma didn’t think it was funny! ha!

The best man at my wedding gave the best wedding toast I’ve ever heard. Right, of course everyone says that, but I’m not kidding. At least 20 people told me it was the best toast they had ever heard. It was thoughtful, funny, and to both the hubs and me. It helped that we both consider the best man a best friend, so it wasn’t your traditional “just talk about the groom because I don’t know the bride” toast. Plus, the guy threw in a Friends reference. Seriously, need I say more.

There we no toasts at our wedding – but I saw a really funny & creative one on YouTube. The bride was into musical theater and her friends made a song and dance routine. Check it out – try searching “Amy musical toast” or something.

Not the best toast, but the scariest toast was for our friend who was marrying into a big Italian family. The father basically threatened him with death (if he broke his little girl’s heart) and he was not kidding. It was quite an uncomfortable moment for all of the guests.

My sister was 20 when I got married. She had never even been to a wedding before when I asked her to be my maid of honor. She didn’t know she had to give a toast until a few days before the wedding, and she was terrified. But she got up there and gave the most heartfelt, genuine toast about how much family means to my hubby and I, and how much that meant to her. It brought several people to tears, and I still get choked up about it now, 6 years later. I hope I’ll be able to give such a nice toast when she gets married next summer!

I don’t really have a best toast moment, but I can say that my favorite “toast times” are when I’m together with friends and we get our round of drinks and hold them in the air and then tap the glass on the table (or bar) and then drink. The tapping of the glass on the table is a bartender’s thing kinda givin’ it up to the bar/bartender. Good times :)
