Fab Freebie: I’ll Drink To That

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.

Mikasa Wine Glasses

Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.

Mikasa Crystal Glassware

  • PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I’ll DRINK TO THAT, I have to say the hardest toast I’ve done was at my best friends wedding and I was 7 months pregnant so no little sip of wine to take the nerve off.

In my opinion, the best wedding toasts (or other toasts, I suppose, though most toasts I hear are during weddings) are light-hearted and slightly humorous. I know many people love the you’re-amazing-and-mean-the-world-to-me toasts, but they’re just not my thing. :)

The most memorable toast that comes to mind is the most recent one I have heard – my sister’s MOH toast to my husband and I at our wedding. She wrote a song about our relationship, sang it and had my brother accompany her on guitar.

Everyone that was at the wedding wants a copy of her “toast”!

The best toast I have heard, I was lucky enough to hear at my own wedding. My sister did an absolute awesome job! She said memories of when we were younger, talked about my new husband with a few jokes and welcomed him to the family and then proceeded to give us a few words of wisdom. It was so awesome! I’ll never forget it!

I’m so excited about this giveaway! I’m crossing my fingers, crossing my toes, crossing the street… You get the idea.

The most memorable toast I’ve given was to my sister and her new groom. I’m sure that it was not incredibly eloquent or remarkably funny; but it was filled with love and all my best hopes and most sincere wishes for their lifetime together.

The best toast I’ve heard (or given, even!) have been classy and heartfelt. My fiance has a go-to anecdote that’s always sure to get a sincere laugh:

“(To bride), place your hand on the table. (To groom), place your hand on hers. Now I know that you will always remember this moment, for the rest of your years together, for it will be the last time that you have the upper hand.” Hee hee, I’ve doubted people’s ability to see the sweet humor in it, but it’s worked successfully at two weddings! Love it.

Best toast ever was at my cousin’s wedding – the father of the groom was so nervous about speaking in public that he accidentally crushed his glass in half by knocking it too fiercely with his fork! “Hrrrm hrrrrm may I have your attention – – – SMASH!!!!” Unforgettable!

One of the most memorable speeches that I heard wasn’t just one, but three. My cousin-in-law was the only girl and the youngest of 4. All 3 of her brothers gave a short toast on her wedding day. The groom asked all of them for permission to marry her too.

Tough to remember them all, but I did like what my friend’s sisters said to her during their toast. She is from across the country and came to the east coast for grad school, promising to move back after it was over. Her sisters swore she wouldn’t come back. Well, she fell in love, got married, and her sisters’ toast started out “Remember when we said you’d go to grad school, fall in love, and never come back? Well, WE TOLD YOU SO.”

The most memorable toast I’ve witnessed was the drunken best man at a friend’s wedding who gave the most heartfelt, beautiful toast I’ve ever heard. He blew us all away–our epxectations were so low and boy did he deliver.

This could change as soon as I finally see my wedding video as our maid of honor and best man from our wedding were bashful and opted to toast the video camera…

My favorite toast I’ve given was roughly this:

Antoine de St. Exupery once said that “Love does not consist in gazing at each other but looking outward in the same direction.” Today, [name] and [name] have eyes only for each other, but I know that they are bound for success because they are looking forward together, in love. Here’s to many happy years together.
