Fab Freebie: I’ll Drink To That

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.

Mikasa Wine Glasses

Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.

Mikasa Crystal Glassware

  • PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

My brother was my husband’s best man and was sooo nervous about the speech so he kept it very short … he raised his glass and said, “I love you both!”

My most memorable toast was definitely my sister’s maid of honor toast at my wedding. She made everyone cry happy little tears when she talked about how she isn’t losing a best friend, but gaining a brother…and made everyone laugh hysterically when she told us about how she had a crush on the groom when she was in 7th grade! :)

My favorite toasts were always those we did as kids. Instead of “cheers”, we insisted on saying “Let’s bang glasses!”

As the matron of honor, I recently gave a toast at my best friend’s wedding. I think what made it most memorable and special was a story that I told about something I did for her back in high school that she had never known about until I mentioned it in my toast!

We had three toasts at my wedding… best man (hub’s best friend), maid of honor (my sister) and matron of honor (my best friend). Each one was funny and poignant. Some of my favorite pics from our wedding are those. Both of our mothers were standing together with tears in their eyes… very sweet moment. I so wish someone had video taped that.

my favorite toast was at my friend’s wedding. The best man was giving a tear-jerker of a toast for his brother, the groom. And his mom was sitting 5 feet away interrupting, saying “why don’t you tell such-and-such story” or “don’t tell that story”. The best part was when the teary toast-giver said “mom, this is not your wedding day… shush”

Seriously the funniest toast I heard was at my ex-boyfriend’s cousins’ wedding. His cousin’s best friend was really shy and quiet and his wife’s best friend was really outgoing and crazy! So the best man went first and real quick and quiet was like “JOHN YOU’RE THE BEST FRIEND A GUY COULD ASK FOR. I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU” and that was it! lol and we were all like “ooook?” than the maid of honor went up and was like “I couldn’t have said it better myself!” It was cute – I think they knew the both of them were going to make it cute and quirky without even trying!

My most memorable toast was from my nephew who was only around a year old. He didn’t exactly give a toast, but everyone at the table had to say “Cheers” and clink their glass against his bottle. Adorable!

Luckily he outgrew this game, as I am sure it wouldn’t still be quite as cute!

My Dad had the best speech at our wedding – his last line was that sold his first born daughter to the devil so the Red Sox would win the World Series (they did that year). Then he looked at Hubbie and said “Matt, you devil!”

“I’LL DRINK TO THAT!” Most memorable toast? A father-of-the-bride toast at his daughter’s wedding reception. He told the story of how when she was born they didn’t know her gender, so they had picked out a girl’s name and a boy’s name: Stephanie and Philip. Well, she was a girl so they named her Stephanie and didn’t have any children after that. They never got to use the name Philip. However, she was getting married to a man named Philip, so the father-of-the-bride said they got their ‘son’ Philip after all! Totally cute toast. (We’re friends of Philip’s BTW.)

Funniest toast – Military wedding (USMC). They had been engaged for what seemed like ages; Father of the Bride – who was a retired USMC NCO toasted the groom and teased that the groom must have been waiting until he could cut the cake with his OWN saber. (Usually don’t get a saber until you are a senior NCO – that takes time.)

I’LL DRINK TO THAT!…the best man at my sister’s wedding did something short and sweet with a funny twist that has stuck with me for the 11 years they’ve been married! He asked my brother-in-law to put his hand over my sister’s and then said…”this is the last time you’ll have the upper hand”. So true! Too bad this giveaway isn’t next week because I could tell you the toasts given at MY wedding this Saturday! Those wine glasses would make a great wedding gift! hint hint :)

    “I’ll drink to that”

We were hanging out with the groom’s brother, also the best man, while the bride and groom were off with the photographer. He was trying to think of a catchy phrase to end with, so I recommended an old Eskimo (Inuit) proverb that I have always wanted to give.

“May you have warmth in your igloo, oil in your lamp, and love in your hearts.” There are diff variations, but it was kuhl to hear him actually end the toast this way.

From our wedding, the best toast was from my college roommate when she talked about how in response to a negative attitude towards marriage from a fellow plane passenger on the way to our wedding, she said that there are some weddings where you are happy to attend b/c you know that the couple belong together and that their marriage will stand the tests of time.

The moment actually came about two months ago, when my fiance’s brother was getting married, and asked him to give the toast. I was so nervous for him, I thought I would look up a few sample toasts and get good lines, and just a general outline of what a good toast was. Well, I took notes, and tried to give them to my fiance. His response to them was ” I’m just going to wing it.” Now I was super nervous. lol About ten minutes before he was supposed to give the toast, he came up to me and said, ” I think I might need some of those pointers on what to say.” Well HA! I knew it! I gave him some of the pointers I remembered, and it turned out pretty good. Considering…
