Fab Freebie: I’ll Drink To That

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.

Mikasa Wine Glasses

Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.

Mikasa Crystal Glassware

  • PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I’ll toast to that!! I have to say, I have given one good speech at my cousin’s wedding. I actually had people asking for copies!! It was a balance of things for the bride and groom, not just an embarassing story about the bride. But what people liked most was the end, when I said, “Most people would wish you the best of luck right now. However, I wish you love, happiness, forgiveness, (etc.), but most importantly, that the love you feel for eachother today continues each day, for the rest of your lives.” Apparently, I made a few men cry!!

I pretty much toast anytime I go out with friends. The booze gets flowing in me and I just love to start toasting. Some people would call it a curse, my friends call it entertaining.

Best toast I ever gave was at my brother’s wedding: I was a “groomswoman” as my brother and I are only three years apart and are close friends. My toast involved stories of how every friend I ever had growing up was always in love with my “totally cool” and good-looking brother. It got so bad that I eventually began to think that girls were only friends with me so they could come over to my house and ogle him! I ended the toast noting that I was thrilled to be a part of his wedding day and welcomed my new sister-in-law into the family, noting that my “totally cool” brother had finally met a woman who was as cool as him.

“I’ll drink to that.” My sister and I gave a joint toast at my youngest sister’s wedding last year. We re-wrote the words of Shel’s Silverstein’s “Sister for Sale” (a poem we often recited to her–with the real words–when we were younger and annoyed with baby sis) to a simple and warm congratulations to the happy couple. It was short and sweet. We received a lot of compliments!

just this past june i attended a wedding reception with my husband and witnessed a truely awesome toast. the grooms best man was, to put it nicely, enjoying the open bar, and had obviously had a few drinks. he also had obviously not prepared a speech. all odds against him he still managed to give a hilarious and heartfelt speech.

Best toast I’ve heard was my aunt giving advice to my cousin at her wedding, about how to avoid the same mistakes she made in her life/previous marriage. It was heartfelt and beautiful, without being too depressing.

The most memorable toast I have heard so far was at our wedding, delivered by my husbands best friend, the best man. It was very memorable, but not in the touching, perfect for a wedding kind of way. He gave a detailed account of how he farted in my husbands mouth while they were on a camping trip. I guess to show how closely bonded they are??

Needless to say, it wasn’t received well by all. In fact, my side of the fam never speaks of passing gas. Ever. It was a really awkward moment.

My sis gave a great speech at my wedding almost 3 years ago (09/03/06) – at the end she sang the song from Napolean Dynamite where Kip sings to Lafawnduh about loving technology. She even wore Kip style glasses and sang in his voice. I have a great, silly family!

    “I’ll drink to that…”
Last year, While my husband was deployed I volunteered for a fundraising event, they gave us all a bottle of champagne as a thank you. I waited until he came home, and we enjoyed it one of the first nights he was home. At that point we knew we would be moving to a new assignment that would have no deployments for the next four years. His toast was ‘being together, working hard, and growing our family’. Needless to say, it was heartfelt, and we ended up getting pregnant very near that time! (unfortunately we lost the baby 10 weeks later, but I worked the same event, and this time they gave me a few bottles of the ‘baby making wine’ as EVERYONE calls it now!)

The best toast I’ve heard to date was at one of my best friend’s wedding. He went to a military college – so the best man’s “toast” was singing “You’ve Lost the Loving Feeling” to the bride Top Gun style. Too funny!

“I’LL DRINK TO THAT” I think one of the more memorable toasts I can think may be one you would file under the “not a good idea” category….the groom’s best man said that the first thing he remembered about meeting his friend’s girl(future bride) is that he thought she “was way too good looking for him”…the room was kinda quiet after that exact for a few nervous laughs! I think he meant to word that a little better-oops!!

The most memorable toast for me was the one my sister gave at my wedding. She was the last to speak and as she took the mic she said, “Oh well I haven’t really had much time to prepare….cue the slide show please!” and then whips out her laptop and dims the lights. She then treated everyone to a telling of how my husband and I met, complete with some hilarious pictures. It was awesome and I was so touched by her creativity.

I was so emotional that I basically started crying about 3 seconds in (uncontrollably)….but was bound and determined to finish it, and kept on crying! My husband had his face in his hands (not sure who was more embarrassed – him or me?)
