Fab Freebie: I’ll Drink To That

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.

Mikasa Wine Glasses

Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.

Mikasa Crystal Glassware

  • PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

The toast given at my wedding was memorable! It was about how earlier that day I chased down some cows that were on the road while all decked out in my veil :)

I’ll drink to that. A toast that still makes me laugh was Ashlee Simpson (now Simpson-Wentz) to her sister Jessica Simpson when she married Nick Lachey. Ashlee’s toast had a line something to the effect of memories of taking baths with Jessica when they were little, and now Nick gets to take baths with her. OK, I totally butchered that, it was way funnier the way she said it.

I’ll Drink to That! The most memorable one for me is one that I gave. I sobbed hysterically (and it was an alcohol free wedding so I can’t even blame that…).

At my good friend’s wedding last May, the Made of Honor forgot to write her speech until about 30 minutes before the toasts were supposed to be given. She was out in the lobby of the hotel frantically scribbling on a crinkled sheet of paper, but still managed to give a tear-jerking, wonderful speech. I’LL DRINK TO THAT!

The best man at our wedding was so nervous about his toast that he wrote it on a note card. He had memorized the whole thing word for word and left the card in his coat pocket so when we took the tux’s back we had his notecard as a keepsake!!

I’LL DRINK TO THAT! – I can’t say I’ve been witness to any crazy memorable toasts, but the best man at my wedding did put in his toast about how he knew my husband and I were dating even when no one else did (we were hiding it for a while because we worked together, like you guys!)

I just gave a toast two weekends ago at my best friend’s wedding. We’ve known one another over half of our lives, meeting when we were 13 years old and just starting high school. My advice is that you can’t go wrong if you speak from the heart.

At our wedding our best friend stood up and retold the story of how they got us together in their opinion. Being big story tellers, needless to say everyone enjoyed it but it was far from the truth.

I just went to a wedding last weekend with my boyfriend. The bride and groom were two of his college friends that I hadn’t met yet and knew very little about. The maid of honor’s speech really left an impression on me because she did a wonderful job of highlighting both the bride’s and groom’s personalities then tied it all together in the end. It was both creative and touching.

Last month I went to a wedding and the grandfather of the bride got up to make a toast. I think he got confused though, because he went to the mic, raised his glass and said the Lord’s Prayer. It was really sweet though.

I can never sit through wedding toasts dry eyed. There is just something to touching about someone standing up to process how much they love you or how great of a friend you have been to them over the years. :)

Here’s a toasting story for you: My sister was married on the 4th of July, and I wasn’t able to go to the wedding because I live out of town and was nine months pregnant. So, we took a picture of me and my other sister had it blown up into a life-size cardboard replica. Then, when it came time for the speeches, they announced that I had come from far away to toast the bride — and my brother brought out the cardboard cut-out and read a toast that I had written and sent earlier. It was a huge hit, and “Cardboard Me” danced the night away, was fed cake by the bride and groom, and passed out at the end of the night on the gift table.

The best toast I’ve ever heard was done by my husband. He did it at our wedding. After the best man and maid of honor speech, he got up and thanked everyone for coming (350+ people), and then told everyone how lucky he felt and how much he loved me, etc. It was soooo sweet and I am so thankful to have gotten a photo of him doing it.

    Cheers!!

When my best (Anglo) friend married a gal originally from Guatemala, the wedding was at a beautiful country club outside of Guatemala City. The whole ceremony was bilingual (English and Spanish) so both families could understand it. For my toast at the reception, I prepared and translated – and even elicited a few laughs from both groups (at the right times, not because I was butchering the language). My friends were pretty happy with me!

We got through what we thought was all the toasts at our wedding, and came out relatively unscathed… but then at the end of the night my husband’s VERY inebriated Uncle Buddy grabbed the mic from the band and said he had a very important toast. It went something like this: “Here’s to Eve, the mother of us all; Here’s to Adam, who was johnny on the spot when the leaves began to fall! Here’s to passion and panties dropping tonight!! YEEE DOGGIEEE!” Yup. Classy, I know.
