Fab Freebie: I’ll Drink To That

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.

Mikasa Wine Glasses

Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.

Mikasa Crystal Glassware

  • PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I’ll drink to that! Neither the maid of honor (my best friend) nor the best man (my husband’s brother) at our wedding are emotional people, but they both got emotional during their toasts, which made them even sweeter.

    I’LL DRINK TO THAT!

Being pregnant during wedding this season I was privy to being cognizant of every horrible toast while everyone else enjoyed the open bar. At one, the best man (grooms brother) talked about how hot the bride was and closed with “and (brides) family…I don’t know what I am to you, but whatever it is…you got a good one.” …I always love toast riddles.

For mine and my husband’s wedding, his best man and my maid of honor gave toasts. His best man went first and had a very heartfelt, but also humorous speech. His speech included some Bible verses. My maid of honor’s turn came (she’s my sister) and her speech included such lines as, “I’ve known Tania…. my whole life” and “I don’t know any psalms, so hang with me”. I don’t think she’ll be giving any maid of honor speeches anytime soon!

My sister married a great guy this past June (about 10 years after her less than stellar first marriage ended). Her teenage daughter (my incredible niece), gave the most touching toast. She talked about how much her Mom had sacrificed to make sure she had a good childhood, and gave her whole-hearted support to the happy couple.

The most memorable speech was from my wedding. My husband’s brother was the best man and he was giving his toast and recalling all the good old days they had together. And he said, “I remember all those school yard farts.” Yes…he said “farts” and meant to say “fights”. Needless to say, the place was roaring with laughter and we will never let him live it down. Too funny!

When we got home from getting engaged my parents were waiting for us with Champagne. My Dad got a bit emotional and nervous when toasting to me and my now husband and accidentally called him my sister’s boyfriend’s name. Oops…wrong name Dad! At least he got it right at the wedding. :)

I’ll drink to that! The best toast I heard was the one that my dad gave at his father’s second wedding. The speech was just the right amount of sentimental, heartfelt and humorous speech. I remember exactly how my dad started his speech off too. He began. “They say right before you die, your life flashes in front of you eyes. Well, when your father tells you he’s getting remarried, your life flashes in front of your eyes too.”

Our best man gave a speech and at the end told everyone that my husband had ate cat food before. He’s getting married next Summer and my husband will be telling everyone at his wedding how he thought the yellow bumps in the middle of the road was turtles and would cry every time his mom or dad changed lanes because he thought turtles were dying!

The best toasts are always the ones in new countries and learning to say what they do when clinking glasses….Salud! Skullllll! Cheers!
As a side note did you know the clinking is from the middle ages when people were making the noise to ward off evil spirits?

At the wedding of one of my best friends from high school the maid of honor (and another one of my best friends) gave a tearjerker of a toast, traveling from when we all knew each other at 7 until that very moment when she was getting married. All of my friends from high school cried afterwards, but I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room!

I’ll drink to that! Most memorable toast was the one I gave as maid or honor to my sis. No real tips. I tried (key word) to get through a toast that talked about us as young girls talking about boys when I got my first boy/girl party invite (i am younger). I ended the toast slightly babbling and crying, but it was a hit, especially with all women / sisters in the crowd.

I have just been to a local wedding here in Hawaii. The best man is the groom’s brother. His toast started with a few standard words then rolled into what he called “the local toast” of an “AAAALL-RIIIIGHT” to which the guests responded to with another “AAAAALL-RIIIIGHT”. This got repeated many times and by the end, the whole place was in an uproar. You gotta love fun weddings like that.

I’LL DRINK TO THAT! At our wedding the best man (who is also one of my closest friends as well) wrote a toast that was a poem. One of those where the first letter of each line spells out a word. It spelled out Congratulations. All the lines rhymed and were funny and touching at the same time. It was awesome.
