Fab Freebie: I’ll Drink To That

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.

Mikasa Wine Glasses

Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.

Mikasa Crystal Glassware

  • PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
  • CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
  • THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I’ll drink to that! My sister gave the best speech at my wedding. It was short, sweet, and so honest.

The Highball glasses would be perfect additions to our bar!

The only two memorable toasts I can think of both involve my sister: 1) She shouts the “There are good ships…” toast at least once each time she drinks and 2) She decided to “wing” her MOH speech at my wedding last year and ended up crying during most of it. All of our guests thought she was drunk – lovely.

    “I’ll DRINK TO THAT”

I was married in June of this year and my sister gave a touching toast about how she has always looked up to me as a role model and aspired to be like me. It was really sweet and she shared some touching thoughts she had never expressed to me before. So sweet!

My dad gave a fantastic toast at my sister’s wedding in July. I wish I had a copy of what he said! He was talking to the groom about my sister and it began something like “She’s not an antique, but she is vintage.” Then it talked about caring for and polishing her and a bunch of manly car stuff. The last lines went “And if you wreck her, I’ll come a gunning.” (meant mostly in jest) “This is a key that a car it won’t start, but it is the key to my daughter’s heart.” And he presented the groom with a symbolic antique key. A bunch of us were in tears – it was so sweet. :)

A memorable toast was one that I gave at a good friend’s wedding as the maid of honor. I felt that I had written a technically perfect and inspiring speech, but as I was reading it word-for-word from the written version in front of the 200 guests, I realized that I was boring even myself. So in a moment of bravery, I threw down the paper and said, “Heck with it, I’m just going to say what I feel right now!” The crowd cheered and I went on to gush in tears about the couple. Lesson learned: people appreciate honesty, spontaneity, and humor more than the a perfect “on paper” speech!

I’ll drink to that! I think one of the most memorable toasts was at my daughter’s wedding by her new brother in law. He went on and on how happy he was that Caryl, my daughter, was now a Yankees fan and how happy the family was that she became a Yankee fan and on and on. We live in Red Sox Nation so our side of the family was not too pleased. But it is a toast that everyone remembers and talks about 4 years later.

At our wedding my husband and I had my father give a toast and not any of our bridal party. My father didn’t go on and on about me (as you might expect a father to do) but rather all the different ways that my husband and I compliment each other. It was funny, sentimental and perfect.

I haven’t been to many weddings, but my husband was best man at one recently and his toast was so heartfelt (yet still funny) to his best friend and his new wife. It brought a tear to my eye and I guess I’m saying as long as it comes from the heart it’ll be a winner.

My Maid of Honor’s speech at my wedding was especially touching. She included a funny story that everyone could follow (unlike the best man’s speech, hehe), and a wonderful theme running throughout. She had a few tears which made me tear up, too. Everyone loved her speech and felt that it was straight from the heart, but not too “inside joke-ish.”

    Again,thanks for posting give aways.

A wedding I recently attended had the father read a letter that the daughter wrote to the family about the man she was now marrying. (She was 17 at the time.) She’s Canadian, he’s Texan, enough said.

    “Mom, he’s a real cowboy! He’s special.”

Everyone at the wedding knew the groom well enough to know he playe it up BIG TIME to impress her. :) It’s all about seeing what the couple went through to make it happen.

All of the toasts at our wedding were wonderful – the best man, my maid of honor. My dad’s especially – it was short, sweet, and heartfelt.

Also, one of my husband’s groomsmen was his childhood friend, and he gave a toast in song form at our rehearsal dinner with lyrics about them growing up as kids together. It was hilarious and totally unexpected (but he had it all written out ahead of time!)!

I’ll drink to that. I just gave a matron of honor speech for my younger sister this weekend. I think what made it most memorable was me being humble to my younger sister, affirming great character that has developed over the years. It was emotional for the both of us.

“I’ll drink to that!” One of my college friends gave the best wedding speech. We all went to Japan for his wedding (he was an exchange student), and he gave the best speech that honored his parents and toasted his new life with his new bride! It was amazing, and all in Japanese! They had a copy of it translated into English for those of us who came from out of the county.
