Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

Improved accessibility – my husband uses a wheelchair, and even though our condo seems accessible, there are a few things that would really improve it!

I would want a garage. That was a requirement when we were house hunting for our starter home, and here I sit 13 years later in my “starter home” with no garage. If only we had stuck to our requirements!

A big back yard with a classy looking front porch. I know, I know, I’d have to DIY the fancy front porch. It’s OK! :)

Homes me! We are actually in the process of buying a home and the major requirement is that it’s only 10+ acres with great soil because we want to start an organic vegetable farm.

HOMES ME! If we had to buy a new house, I would look for more storage and lots of custom features such as cabinets in the pantry. We are expecting our second baby and need all the cabinet space where we can organize our clothes, toys, linen etc but have these dull builder type of closets with just one shelf :(

HOMES ME! We just bought our first house this summer, so I am still in the honeymoon phase with it. I like more open floor plans, though, so someday we might bust down the wall between the kitchen and dining room.

My new house would have a gift wrapping/project room with 2 huge center islands with trash holes. The outer walls would have bottom cupboards all the way around the room and windows on the top. I’d probably need a spray paint booth somewhere too.

and the rest of the house too, I’d need the rest of the house too…..

    happy holidays!!!

    HOMES ME!

This is really sad, but I just want a house with no lead paint. Thankfully, we don’t own, and our landlord is going to bring a specialist over. He’s doing some sort of remodeling this next summer if he has the cash *fingers crossed* We’re hoping this means pulling out the window frames/sills (that’s where the lead is, under some peeling paint). Anyway, needless to say, we will do thorough lead paint checks if we ever buy a house. The lead really limits that amount of change we can do in our place, even though our landlord is happy to let us do whatever.

our next home would have to have 3 things
    1. more square footage (right now we live in a 960spft house with 2 kiddos)
    2. an attic or a basement (both would be beyond ideal)
    3. a nice big kitchen with lots of storage (a pantry would be glorious!)

HOMES ME! I would love to have a hallway separating the bedrooms from the more public areas, lined with built in cabinets that look like wood panels (not wood paneling) and that are deep enough to hold my Rubbermaid tubs that hold all kinds of things — and one of them to be kept empty for last minute clean ups!

Homes me! I think if I could pick anything that we can’t have st are current house I’d choose a basement, since we live in a tornado prone area and for the extra storage and room to expand.
