Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One

    HOMES ME!

A laundry room. I live in an apartment now and have to lug my laundry up and down 3 flights of stairs and can only do laundry certain hours of the day. And one neighbor has tried to discuss buying my pants from me…so I have to guard my laundry too. Ha!

    HOME ME!

We just moved into our new house this past summer and while we wanted to ‘stay small’…well, now I wonder if small was too small…so I would want more square footage. :( It makes me sad because this is our forever home, it is just going to be our cramped forever home if/when we have kids!!

HOMES ME! Our absolute must is a walkable location; our current place is just big enough for us and has a great yard, but despite being smack dab in the middle of this city we can’t walk anywhere! We need a place with sidewalks that actually connect to other sidewalks, and bike lanes that are actually the width of a bike. Dreaming big!

If I were to buy a home right now, I would probably move my parents into it. They’re 60 and have spent their lives giving and doing for everyone around them (and still do!) and live in a small rental, so they have no place to call their own. Yet. :)

I would love more bedrooms, baths, acreage etc. But honestly the one thing that would make me exceedingly ridiculously happy is a mudroom. With built in dog crates and shower for muddy paws, dusty children or gardening gear. Obscene amounts of storage. A door to hide it all. I know it sounds like a bit much but really it’s not, I promise :)

We love our house – but now that we have kids, I wish we were in a neighborhood with sidewalks and that we also that our main living area opened to the backyard (our deck is a story off the ground) and that it was fenced in.

I’m not buying a house until I find one that allows me to have my perfect kitchen, whether that means cheap enough for me to design and build it or already pre-installed. Need subway tile, stainless steel, double wall ovens… yeah, I’m needy, but this WILL happen.

We’ve been in our home for a year now and the “to do” list is never ending! Insulation, drywall, new flooring.

If we were to buy another home it would be with acreage — sheep, chickens, bees, and forest space (maybe a little creek too!)
