Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

My next (and first) home will definitely need hardwood floors…even if they’re under a really horrible mustard yellow shag.

HOMES ME! My requirements for my next house is closer to downtown (I live in Chicago and not digging my current neighborhood in the city) and an upgraded kitchen. Just went through a remodel of my current townhouse’s kitchen and it. was. painful.

HOMES ME! One floor! Layout that doesn’t make we want to remove all interior walls and start over. Neighborhood with amenities that are walk-able, have good transit. Lots of storage, nice outside space that is still low maintenance.

“HOMES ME!” I would love a yard with more trees and a neighborhood with kids. Currently we have a lovely yard but not a lot of mature trees and all much older people in the area with grown kids.

I would definitely want more square footage. We’re in a great sized home for us and a kid or two in the future but I could see us running out of space as kids start to grow. One day we’ll upgrade as we’ve only been in our home for a little over a year so I’m talking in the way way future for an upgrade : )

HOMES ME!!! More square footage. A different layout. And a house that doesn’t contain a spiral staircase. Ever tried to carry a laundry basket up a spiral staircase? It’s not fun.

HOMES ME! One MUST HAVE for me is a yard. You can always change the house, but you can’t usually get more yard. (I’m from Detroit and we have so many abandoned parcels here, that they are currently available for $1 to adjacent neighbors, so sometimes, you CAN get more yard!)
