Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

More square footage, an actual laundry room, and a fenced in yard.

My only major complaint with my current house is the heating system – I have one vent in the living room and absolutely no ductwork to get heat to the 2nd floor! So as unsexy as it sounds, I would look for ductwork. :)

My number one must-have is a great location — I love walking / biking to work, restaurants, shops, etc so location is crucial!

We are looking for a house now, the big things we are looking for is a driveway! We have lived in the city for the past 8 years and fighting for parking is a hassle.
Of course we would love a good school system, fabulous neighbors, and a house that makes us smile!

HOMES ME! I would die for larger closets. As it is, hubby has the closet in our bedroom and I have the guest bedroom closet. But that’ll all change come June, when our baby on the way takes over the guest room!

Homes me! My hubby and I are in the “buying our first home” process now, and the top of our list is location and a kitchen with room for entertaining! Planning on using lots of tips from my new “Young House Love” book to turn our first house into a home.

    HOMES ME!!!!!!!

Funny enough…we just bought a new house last month (a townhouse in the process of being built). We decided on a whim that we wanted a new house close to where I work! Commute time was eating away our family time! Our dream came true!

If I could go buy a “new” house it would have a backyard patio!!

HOMES ME! I would have to have some great character bones to work with (hardwood floors, molding, lovely little nooks) and be in a bike-able location (a quaint, old, Midwestern downtown, perhaps?)!

HOMES ME! If we bother to move, I want family within 50 miles. We’re about 1000 from my in-laws, former neighbors/friends, and 1600 from my parents and childhood friends.
A spare bedroom is a necessary element too, given we always have at least one set of parents out of state. A spare bedroom separate from my office room would be ideal :)

A new house would actually need to include a better kitchen with more storage!!! We just have a galley…I drool over new kitchens with deep sinks and a big pantry. A bigger laundry room would be pretty sweet too.

    HOMES ME!

I just moved into a beautiful apartment built in the 1920’s, so it has a lot of character and soul, but it does lack a few more modern conveniences like extra electrical outlets and more counter space. Renovating the kitchen would be fantastic. I’d also love a slightly larger bathroom.

The number one thing I need in a new house is a quiet neighborhood. We live in the city near a bar and we are woken up every weekend by drunks yelling at each other or laughing REALLY loud or just being idiots. I CANNOT wait to move!
