An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!
With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

If I were buying a house today, I’d want a fenced in back yeard with a door that leads directly to it!
Stephanie says
Homes me please!!
My oldest daughter wants her own bathroom, while I just want more storage!! And built in bookshelves, too.
Joy says
House Me!
I would want a flat grassy lawn and parking. 2 things lacking in my current house.
Amber says
Homes me! We just bought a new house this summer and the top of our list was more room. We just had our 3rd boy and were already scrunched for space with 2 boys in our first home!
Sarah P. says
HOMES ME!
If we were house hunting I would love higher ceilings and a bigger dining room!
Allison says
HOMES ME!
I need a home that isn’t literally next door to my (well-meaning?) in-laws!!!!!
:)

HOMES ME!!
I want a mudroom. It seems like such a small thing, but I’m so very very tired of an entryway full of all the shoes and boots and coats and scarves and hats and mittens, and then the muck that gets tracked everywhere because the ONLY door(!) opens right into the living space. Done with it. I want a mudroom. Is $500 enough to build a mudroom addition onto my house???

Upper Floor Laundry Room!
Shannon O says

a workshop of some kind (garage, basement, building) would be killer. that’ll be at the top of our list for our next house.
Betsy says
HOMES ME! I just want a place that needs a little love.
Sarah K. says
Homes me! A beautiful, spacious, updated kitchen, and the same in the bathrooms!
Laura J says
HOMES ME! a big back yard, with plenty of grass for the dogs to run on & a good sized patio
Emily says
HOMES ME!! We had a big demand. Lots of land within walking distance to our downtown. We just found it though, an old historic home on 1 acre. I am still addicted to browsing the classifieds though.
Joanie says
HOMES ME!
In our next home we need more storage – our closets now are sooo tiny they are funny…
I dream of built in bookcases and extra large closets and only ramblers please – we love one-level living.
Deborah T. says
HOMES ME!
A fenced in yard for our dog and a bigger kitchen.

Homes Me!
My fiance and I are looking for our first house! The biggest thing or things we want are a 2 car garage and a huge yard. Either that or a country house with a large shed. We aren’t picky ;)
Molly says
HOMES ME!
I would look for a house with character (built-ins, arched door ways, crown molding)!!! :)
Megan W. says
HOMES ME!
If I bought a home, I would want a little more area for storage.
Linda says
HOMES ME! I love my 1896 Victorian, but I would also love a new, smaller house on one level so I wouldn’t have to trudge down a total of 29 stairs from the bedroom to the basement laundry area (and 29 back up again!)
Katy says
HOMES ME!
I really really really want a fireplace with an awesome mantel to decorate for each season!

A window in the bathroom. Seriously. This is a must.

I’d love even more room for entertaining…I think a “great room” attached to a kitchen with a big island would be heavenly!

Must have for a new house would be large, large bathtub in the master bathroom.
Lindsey says
Homes me!!
A HUGE yard for sure. A farm in fact. That was a compromise we made to get into a great city, and I really wish we had a real yard.
Stephanie says
HOMES ME!
My must have would be a home with an open floor plan to be able to entertain family and friends. My current condo is a little too cramped to have a big get together.
Leslie Ann says

Meg Kobe says
Homes Me!
A covered porch in the back yard…
Michelle L says
HOMES ME!
I would like a great room that is a little more great. We entertain up to 20 people often and there just isn’t enough room for everyone to sit and eat at the same time and the living area only seats 5 people. Adding a 4 seasons room wouldn’t be bad either to accommodate the extra people.
Heidi says
Homes me! My must-have is a home with character.
Cait says
HOMES ME!
I love everything about my house except: 1) A second bathroom- it turns out those are kind of helpful! 2) No trees/landscaping. 3) I don’t own it, so I can’t change #s 1 and 2.
Cathy D says
HOMES ME!
I would love, love, love a big walk in closet!
Jamsby says
Homes me!
Lots of natural light!
Amy W says
HOMES ME! Another bedroom + a bigger kitchen would do the trick!
Julianne says
Homes me!
We just bought a home last month and besides square footage and a yard we wanted to be able to separate formal and family spaces. We love our layout and have already hosted parties where the adults hang in the formal space and the kids run rampant in the family room. It’s perfect!
Ambra says
HOMES ME!
We just bought a new house with more square footage. But now I’d love to have someone to constantly motivate me and to bounce ideas off of so that I’d move off center. I need my own personal cheering section to help me DIY this place into resembling my family!
Kara says
homes me! i love my house, but if i could find a different one, i’d probably look for a bigger garage since ours is TINY.
Savannah Hoffman says
HOMES ME!!
My husband and I just bought our first house last week. We had a list of our “must haves” and waited for the perfect home to come. We are moving in on New Years Eve and the top things on our list were: pier & beam cottage appeal, close to the park to walk our dog, fireplace and hardwood floors. It’s perfect and we can’t wait to celebrate the new year in it!
Carly says
HOMES ME!
If I could buy a house right now, it’d be a starter home, but I’d look for as maintenance free as possible!
Sarah T says
HOMES ME! If I were moving I’d go for a house with lots natural light.
Alisa says
Homes Me! I’d want everything in our current house but I’d love to add a master bedroom. I don’t think we really thought our bedroom was as little as it turned out to be.
jenni o says
homes me!
a better school district
Anna Ransdell says
homes me! I would need more kitchen/pantry storage!
Jennifer says
HOME ME!!!
Our must-have would be 2 bathrooms because my fiance and I CANNOT share anymore! We need to keep the mystery alive and banging on the door when someone is in the shower screaming “Hurry up I need to GOOOOOOO” is not enough mystery for us. ;)
Mandy says
homes me!
Must have hardwood floors. And hopefully two bathrooms. We only have one and it can make for some, um, issues.
mary @ B&Gjournals says
HOMES ME!
i’m actually loving apartment life right now, but i love love love having porches and patios and would definitely be willing to sacrifice in other areas to make that happen :)
Kristi says
Homes Me! I would say a Colonial style is definitely at the top. Chalk it up to a little bit of OCD, but I like the symmetrical look.
Sarah says
HOMES ME!!
Well I live in NYC, so “must haves” would be location, price, location! “Dream haves” would be a bi-level apt with it’s own indoor staircase!
Maria says
HOMES ME! We are moving in 6 months and it would be so nice to have something to help us set up a new place! What we most desire is a yard (oh silly apartments) but we would take just some more space ;) (We have 680 sq ft right now…much too small!) Thanks for the giveaway!
