Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One

This is especially relevant as we’re house hunting. Well, virtually, anyway. Great schools are a must, but beyond that, a fabulous backyard to play and grown things in.

    HOMES ME!
I just bought my first house and even though I love picking up a hammer and DIYing… I wish that my kitchen was already my dream kitchen. It’s got builder cabinets in right now with oak doors, so not too shabby but it is definitely not my style. Definitely on my long list of to-dos!

I love our 1927 bungalow for all its charm, but our next house will be super modern with a toilet for every bottom. Yep…one toilet is simply not enough. That’s not too much to ask right!

    HOMES ME!

Well…after years of searching, we finally just closed on our first home last week! The boxes it checked off that were most important were location (proximity to places we love AND in the “good” school district) and lot size…everything else we can fix or change or somehow make “ours” in the years to come!

If I were getting a new home today it would HAVE to have a lot of natural sunlight. My current apartment doesn’t (at least in the living room) and it drives me nuts! But it’s too good otherwise to move.

    HOMES ME!

There’s so many ‘top of the list’ must haves… Our current home has all of them (cul-de-sac, backyard is against a large greenbelt/open space, great neighborhood/neighbors, decent sized lot, open floor plan) except one. The only thing I’d want different in the next house is a ranch/one story floor plan.

Homes me! It just so happens that I am looking for a place right now and one of my must-haves is to have a commute less than 30 minutes. I don’t think I can take my 1.5+ hour (rush-hour traffic) commute much longer! Yuck!

    HOMES ME!

My first absolute must-have in a new home would be 3 bedrooms. My husband and I both work a sort of combo deal between our offices and our home, and so a workspace is necessary – and it works out great, usually, for that to double as a guest room. And then we need a bedroom, obviously, and we hope to have kids in the near future, so we’d need a third (yikes!).

Also – I recently discovered your blog, which was great timing because my husband and I are about to start looking for our first home after being renters for 5 years of marriage. So – thanks for all your ideas and inspiration! I’m excited to get started on my own home, hopefully relatively soon. :)

I really really love our house. I would just want one more shower and for it to be a little closer to work. I’d also love some more kitchen cabinets, but other than that, it’s love.
