Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One

Bathrooms that didn’t require extensive renovation. My husband would say a space for a media room, but I’d love to have bathrooms that I’d actually like to be in, and we’re not nearly as handy as you two.

    HOMES ME!

My must-have would be a beautiful outdoor space. Living in California has made me appreciate being outside so much more compared to the lifestyle I had back in New Hampshire (where it’s cold 6 months out of the year!) I’d furnish it with a cozy deck or patio, a grill, and a hot tub, with pretty plants and landscape lights to create a nice ambiance.

I’m actually looking at buy a house right now! It might sound crazy but a big “must have” is DYI possibities. But I’m picky, I don’t want to do a whole house gut job but I want to be able to put my touch on my new house.

We just moved into our house about 6 months ago. The one thing we really were looking for was S P A C E. We had been in a 2 bedroom apartment for the previous 4 years. We were done with living on top of each other.

Definitely an extra bathroom and a front yard that would be a bit easier to modify. Over-gardened and bordered with a hard to remove cement barricade is really difficult to change!

Since I don’t have the helicopter to necessitate a heli-pad I believe that I would have to have a sink in the garage or nearby laundry room. I’m sick of having to use my kitchen sink for cleaning paint brushes or washing caulk out from under my nails!

It would be really great to have a yard that could be fenced in. We have a dog and it would be wonderful to be able to take him out and not worry about him taking off after all of the rabbits that live there. Seriously, it is like Watership Down back there!

If I could buy my first home I’d look for one with a great backyard, preferably something with a great view over a lake or something like that! So much of the interior of a house can be changed but your lot never will!

HOMES ME! A pantry would definitely be on my list of must-haves. We don’t have enough cabinet space for food currently, so we store some in our laundry room downstairs. It’s a pain to keep track of how much we have on hand since food is on different floors. 2nd must have would be having nature trails nearby. Not sidewalks, but actual woodsy nature trails.
