Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

    HOMES ME!

My next home would have to have a massive, gorgeous kitchen. From the time I get home from work to the time I go to bed almost every.single.day, I am in the kitchen trying new recipes, making lunches, and cooking dinner. It is the one room I spend the most time in.

I love my current house.. but I have definitely learned of some things that will make the “must have” list for next time. An actual entry area (versus a door opening into the living room) and a garage.

HOMES ME! I have to have a basement and a second toilet. I know, that’s two things but they are both very important when you have a husband with lots of stuff and three kids spending most of their waking moments in the bathroom.

I’d look for a home with a more open/ flexible layout. We live in an older home now. While we don’t use the rooms in the traditional way, it’d be cool to have more open space that is easy to change as the family changes!

We’re looking to buy in 2014 and we want a 2 bedroom condo in our neighborhood with a fab kitchen. In an ideal world it would have a roof deck and a real dining room. We’ll see….

We seriously just started our “dream” list last weekend for when we build a home. The first 3 things added were an entry way, a window seat in the kitchen, and a separate entrance to a giant mudroom!

    HOMES ME!

There are very few things I would change about our current house if I were house shopping. Slightly bigger bedrooms and an extra area (like a bonus room or basement) would be on that list. Plus gas heat (we currently have electric and it’s SO dry!) and a basement or crawl space foundation (we currently have slab and it’s too hard and cold). That’s about it though. Oh and a bigger laundry room. :)

I would look for a house with a 3 car garage. We currently have a single and in Iowa, garage parking is a must for the winter. Fortunately for me, the garage was built in 1925 and is far too small for my husband’s truck to fit, but it does hold my Jetta just fine :).
