Fab Freebie: Gotta Hand It To You

Thanks to random.org, we’ve got a Merry (belated) Christmas prize going out to… Kristin Aune (who made t-shirts for both of her kids, ornaments, buckeyes and has been trying to perfect her fudge pie recipe). Congrats!

Wahoo. Hope you guys all had an awesome holiday weekend (you can see a sliver of ours here). As we mentioned on Friday, we’ll be stopping in with one quick post each day this week (amongst family hosting, feverish book-deadline writing, and priming & painting all of our kitchen cabinets). But we couldn’t wait to share today’s giveaway that we wrangled after seeing so much amazing stuff at our local Handmade Holiday craft fair. So this week’s lucky winner will get:

  • An 8×10 letterpress print (any choice of quote & color), a set of blueprint notes (airplane, boat, golfcart, knots, wave, or lighthouse) and a leather blank book from Almanac Industries. These Baltimore-based bookbinders and letterpress gurus bring a wonderful worn and masculine vibe to these printed prizes.
  • $50 towards Funnel Cloud Studio on Etsy. Obviously we love her Virginia-themed art, but she also has a bunch of cheerful patterned prints and cheeky illustrations to choose from too.
  • A 26-letter ornament set and this green vase from Turnerbots. And we thought our J, S, C and B initial ornaments were cool. Someone’s about to get a whole alphabet full of candy colored ceramics, along with a V-A-S-E.
  • $50 towards Zou Zou’s Basement on Etsy. We loved the bunny print that we bought, and this $50 is enough to snag two of her colorful prints.

    This Christmas I knitted mittens with a flap and a thumb hole for texting for my sisters and mom. they were a success!

    HAND IT TO ME! I spent the holidays putting together a ton of toys for my son, does that count as DIY? Who knew some of these simple things came with a billion parts!!

    Hand it to me! I bought a used copy of one of my kids’ favorite books and framed the illustrations in thrift store frames I spray painted. They now hang in the kids’ bathrooms. I also got inventive with my Christmas table setting this year and made my everyday china work in my dining room by using a wool scarf as a table runner.

    I made lemon bars for the family just yesterday! There’s something immensely satisfying about making delicious baked goods entirely from scratch :)

    I had a DIY Christmas this year because our budget is tight. I made wreaths from yarn and felt for all the ladies in my life. (Thank you Pinterest!) I also made a great canvas photo collage for my mom. (Again, thank you Pinterest!)

    I made a french toast bake for Christmas morning. I also handmade all our Christmas decorations (ornaments too!) this year and am loving the DIY stuff :).

    HAND IT TO ME!!! Merry Day-After Christmas!! Yes – I made folded book Christmas trees with jingle bells or tiny ball ornaments on top!! So fun and much appreciated as gifts – and decor!!

    HAND IT TO ME!

    I made a “Battleship” game out of wood for my husband for Christmas. We’re no party animals, but I made a drinking game out of it, where if someone hits your ship, you have to take a shot (the ships hold shot glasses). Doubt it’ll ever be used for that, but it’s really cool lookin! :-p

    There was lots of baking/cooking as usual, but I also made felt owl ornaments for my friends and family. As kids, my sister and I always made Christmas crafts with our Mom. This year I decided to bring back the “crafting” tradition!

    HAND IT TO ME…yes I usually do more handmade than I did thisyear, but this year I did a gift for my work secret pal that is a wordplay on her last name, mayeux, I embroidered Mayeux Christmas on an appliqued Chritmas ornament to create a one-of-a-kind holiday throw and she loved it.

    I have completed two fleece ear warmers with about ten still in production (New Year’s presents?), and finally completed a headband for my friend’s daughter that I started in June.

    I baked for all of my holiday parties and didn’t burn a thing!!!

    I also started a business this year and got all of my orders done and shipped out in time for Christmas and Chanukah!!! Yay!

    HAND IT TO ME!!!

    This Christmas I made hand made ornaments for each of my paraprofessionals and cousins. I also made huge wooden ornament door hangers for my sister in law and several close friends. Finally, using my cricut and glass etching cream I monogrammed cake plates and casserole dishes for some of my co workers.

    Hand it to me! I made gumbo from scratch for my office potluck. Made the roux and smoked some meat & mushrooms and chopped everything. (I was quite proud of myself – never tackled gumbo before.)

    I am a baker by trade and I often bring my work home with me. I’ve been busy this season baking a variety of scones, biscotti, and cookies to share with friends and family who come to visit and to bring to potlucks during the season.     HAND IT TO ME!

    We recently moved into our first home and I painted for the first time in my life. We used Glidden Sand White (of course!) for our living room and hallway. There may be some paint on the ceiling and we may have wrapped some Christmas presents in painter’s tape, but it’s our house and we love it!
