Fab Freebie: Bestå Friends

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!

If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.

IKEA BYOF Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME! My best friend is my little sister! I’ve known her for 30 years. We are 18 months apart and have always been ridiculously close. We make even the most boring activities fun because of our endless inside jokes, excessive movie/tv show quoting, and weird sense of humor.

I met my bestie in college (we used to sit in the back of class, eat gigantic muffins and make fun of the goody goodies in the front row). She now lives in SoCal and I live in Texas, but we like to sent each other random emails throughout the week, just to let each other know what we’re up to, what we had for lunch, or what cute outfit we put together that day.

    Fingers crossed!

My BFF and I met during freshman orientation in college and shared a room. I almost gave myself a concussion climbing into the bunk bed that night and she thought I was nuts. We then joined the same sorority and were acquaintances until our senior year of college where we became close. Post graduation we shared an apartment for 4 years and have been BFFs ever since!

I have two BFFs and I met them both in college nearly ten years ago. I was reflecting recently that it’s kind of miraculous I have some of the same friends now as I did at 18! No secret handshakes but we do enjoy communicating in obnoxious abrevs sometimes. NBD. : )

BYOF ME! I met my BFF on the school bus in the 4th grade. I don’t even want to admit how long ago that was but that girl knows more about me than my husband! Plus, I need that Ikea gift card because my unborn child NEEDS a Paong chair for its nursery. :)

I can’t pick just one best friend, since I seem to pick one up from each stage of life…but what all of my various besties have in common is that they don’t live near me. :( Los Angeles, England, Thailand, and the latest one is planning to move to Spain. So I guess our “thing” is that I chase away best friends….

I met my best friend working together in college several years ago and I am SO lucky to have her in my life as such an amazing friend! We love to put on some music and drive around the prettiest parts of atlanta and get absolutely lost sometimes! (That is the best way to find some amazing places here in the ATL)
We actually do have a specific handshake, and yes we are adults (no shame), where we give a ‘handhug’. Oh I luuuurrrve my bestie!

I have a new best friend that I met one year ago. My husband and I move for his job quite a bit and unfortunately it isn’t always easy to stay in touch with old friends, but we’ve met great new ones. My new bestie is so fun and already such a supportive confidant. She’s showed me the best parts of our new city, and she’s already like a sister to me!

BYOF ME! I met my BFF because we dated brothers!

One night, we were all at their parents’ house and the brothers left for some odd reason (no problem, we liked their parents, but they weren’t there). She and I ended up knocking back a bottle of wine and bonding over a breakfast foods episode of How It’s Made.

Fast forward, we ditched the dudes, shared an apartment in college, and continue being excellent friends today!

When we were kids, we loved dressing up in our Wonder Woman Underoos, scheduling sleep overs, and ordering eggdrop soup & egg rolls going to a local Chinese food restaurant (not necessarily at the same time, or in that order).

When we were in high school we planned the school social events, so I guess we like to plan other peoples parties together for free, I guess that is a bit wierd. As for nicknames, it’s a long story but her’s is Pookie, and mine is Princess Melonhead.
