Fab Freebie: Artist’s Block

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This next giveaway came to us as a nursery-themed giveaway, but personally we think Numsi‘s uniquely mod art is suitable for walls of any age. Their contemporary patterns (or custom text) is printed on canvas and then mounted on a 2″ deep birch museum frame to give it some modern dimension and bring some pop to you art collection.

Numsi Text

Plus, since the deep birch plywood cradle makes these blocks of art so sturdy, they can hang on the wall, sit on a shelf or anchor your latest mantlescape. So have some fun browsing their collection of animals and vehicles or patterns and text, because one of you is taking away a $100 credit towards anything on Numsi’s site this week (and the rest of you are taking away a sweet discount).

Numsi Animals Patterns

Here’s how to enter this week:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Numsi.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BLOCK ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since we’re referencing writer’s block, why not share a tip that you use to overcome any creativity or productivity block. Do you go someplace special to help you focus? Got an mental exercise to get your juice flowing again? Or do just go do something else and hope the motivation finds you again later.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 19th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

There is something about listening to The Bird and The Bee that makes me feel inspired. Also moving on to a new project/subject for awhile helps too.

When I get stuck, I find that relocating from the immediate area where I’m blocked allows me to refocus.

I usually try to do something completely brainless, lol. I’ll watch some TV or go for a walk. That almost always works for me.

I usually take a small break first (because by the time I’ve figured out I’m good and stuck I’ve been super-stubborn about just leaving the project be until I’m ready, and I’m frustrated about not feeling magically perfect) for coffee, or maybe I just dance around until I feel more loose, or take a shower to feel like I’m “starting fresh”.

Then I do a search for news or articles or blogs relating to the topic (no kidding; this is actually how I found your blog) and leaf through until I’ve read about three mentally stimulating things on my topic that go from different angles.

Sometimes that’s enough that I can write/be creative immediately again. Sometimes I take all the little thoughts I’ve gotten from that and make a brainstorm sheet of how to connect the ideas, or thumbnails.

(I paint a lot, and the thumbnails give me ideas about how to solve the darn things visually. I get “painter’s block” a lot.)

    Good luck! :D

    BLOCK ME!

As a writer, writer’s block occurs more often than I’d like. My solution: hopping in my car and blaring some tunes on my iPod. Something about putting some distance between me and my work makes the juices flow.

    BLOCK ME! :o)

When I need to “unblock” I lie down and starting with my toes, breath in and (focusing on an individual body part) relax that body part as I breath out. Going from toes to foot to ankle to shin to knee…by the time I reach my head it’s tingling! Once I’ve relaxed even my eyelids and scalp, I’m the zone. I feel rested, rejuvenated and ready to go. It’s amazing! Try it!

    BLOCK ME!

As a professional writer, I find changing my setting usually helps with writer’s block. I get out of the office, change rooms, or just get away from it and come back a half hour later. Just a little time and space can often change perspective.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

To keep the good vibe going I get up from my desk at least once an hour and do some streaching or strenght exercises!
