Fab Freebie: Artist’s Block

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This next giveaway came to us as a nursery-themed giveaway, but personally we think Numsi‘s uniquely mod art is suitable for walls of any age. Their contemporary patterns (or custom text) is printed on canvas and then mounted on a 2″ deep birch museum frame to give it some modern dimension and bring some pop to you art collection.

Numsi Text

Plus, since the deep birch plywood cradle makes these blocks of art so sturdy, they can hang on the wall, sit on a shelf or anchor your latest mantlescape. So have some fun browsing their collection of animals and vehicles or patterns and text, because one of you is taking away a $100 credit towards anything on Numsi’s site this week (and the rest of you are taking away a sweet discount).

Numsi Animals Patterns

Here’s how to enter this week:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Numsi.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BLOCK ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since we’re referencing writer’s block, why not share a tip that you use to overcome any creativity or productivity block. Do you go someplace special to help you focus? Got an mental exercise to get your juice flowing again? Or do just go do something else and hope the motivation finds you again later.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 19th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

To help with writers block I would draw out what I call a idea bubble diagram… although I’m sure there’s a more official literary term for it. Basically I would draw a circle in the center of the page and write a related idea in it. Then I would draw lines from the center bubble that attached to more bubbles, and so on. I would write down ANY idea, regardless of how crazy it sounded. Before I knew it I would have a whole page filled with idea bubbles and have at least one good lead to go on.

I have to write down things as I go and not do it in one sit down…I have a pad of paper and a pencil beside my bed and my always reliable chalk AND whiteboard (made out of an old window with multiple panes) works like a charm! When I’m ready to put it all together I compile my notes and write away!

I go do something else to get inspired – surf the internet, read a magazine, flip through photos – and then get back into it once I’ve got my juices flowing.

Love those prints, btw. They are really floatin’ my boat!

“BLOCK ME” … I love to write and I have several inspirational spots to help the thoughts flowing! When I can’t get out of the house (which is often with 2 kids) or it is raining I love to sit in the window seat in my bedroom, for an outdoor inspiration, anywhere near water! My current fav is a spot not far from my house near a creek.

My writer’s block antidote: re-organize my bookshelves–this always leads to more reading than cleaning (all my cleaning leads to this) which never fails to inspire either awe or the attitude of “i can do better than this”.

Alas, I am suffering from artist’s block right now. It’s super sad, cuz I get all these cute crafting materials and can’t do a thing with them..usually, I try to create something anyways with the hope that eventually I’ll get a spark of an idea :)

    BLOCK ME

When I am at a brain road block I usually try to go looking for inspiration in any way possible, going places, reading a book or a magazine, looking at pictures, but the best way for me to clear that road block is to take my dog for a long walk and just let my brain & imagination run rampid in any direction it wants. Usually whatever it is I’m searching for in that stubborn head of mine will find it’s way to me.

If I’m having an inspiration block, I usually turn to a collection of books and articles that inspire me. Usually I’ll find one simple object I like and that inspires a flood of ideas – much like designers pull an entire room from one object or piece of fabric.

I … scribble. Like a little kindergartner, with brightly colored pencils and/or markers. The scribbles eventually turn to drawings and then art, but just the action of creating such colorful chaos is really helpful when I’m stuck creatively :)

I always try some kind of small-scale construction — hanging a ceiling fan, digging a french drain, cutting a window into my writing shed — the square-corners and quarter-inches part of my brain isn’t the same side as the writing part of my brain. That’s not to say building’s not creative — it absolutely is — just a different sort, for me. If I’m in trouble at the desk, I get out the screw gun and find something that needs fixing… or breaking and fixing.
