Fab Freebie: Artist’s Block

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This next giveaway came to us as a nursery-themed giveaway, but personally we think Numsi‘s uniquely mod art is suitable for walls of any age. Their contemporary patterns (or custom text) is printed on canvas and then mounted on a 2″ deep birch museum frame to give it some modern dimension and bring some pop to you art collection.

Numsi Text

Plus, since the deep birch plywood cradle makes these blocks of art so sturdy, they can hang on the wall, sit on a shelf or anchor your latest mantlescape. So have some fun browsing their collection of animals and vehicles or patterns and text, because one of you is taking away a $100 credit towards anything on Numsi’s site this week (and the rest of you are taking away a sweet discount).

Numsi Animals Patterns

Here’s how to enter this week:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Numsi.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BLOCK ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since we’re referencing writer’s block, why not share a tip that you use to overcome any creativity or productivity block. Do you go someplace special to help you focus? Got an mental exercise to get your juice flowing again? Or do just go do something else and hope the motivation finds you again later.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 19th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    BLOCK ME

Depends on what I am writing but usually I find talking with someone like my boyfriend, family or friends will help get the creative juices flowing. Whether I am looking for a topic or just trying to expand on one I already have picked out. I find having someone to bounce ideas and opinions off means I have to think more about my thoughts and also have someone to counteract them and take a side of an argument I may have not thought of.

“BLOCK ME” I’m a commercial interior designer by day and when I run into a creative block, usually when I’m spaceplanning, I walk away for a bit or even overnight. It’s so strange because it seems like the right solution just magically appears to me and then I’m back in the groove.

I usually get inspired by an art different than the one I’m struggling with. If I’m having writer’s block, I’ll take a break from writing and look at fine art. If I’m having trouble getting a painting started, I’ll take some time to read poetry. I just graduated with a degree in Interior Design- I use the same concept when I’m struggling to create architecturally interesting space. I’ll look at photography or watch a movie. I think looking to something totally different than what I’m doing gives me a fresh perspective when I come back to it.

I stop trying to do whatever it is that isn’t working, and go do something else. Usually the first try is cleaning. I scrub the bathtub or the toilet, do laundry or dishes, or something like that (a physical activity to counter a mental block). If that doesn’t work, then I hula dance, practice ballet, play piano, etc. (physical, plus artistic). If that doesn’t work, I go in search of things that have inspired me in the past (pictures, books I’ve already read, poems, gardens and parks, etc.).

I always have writers block. Give me a simple writing assignment and I’ll spend hours on it, typing and erasing, typing and erasing. I need the pressure of a deadline to get any writing done.
