Fab Freebie: Artist’s Block

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This next giveaway came to us as a nursery-themed giveaway, but personally we think Numsi‘s uniquely mod art is suitable for walls of any age. Their contemporary patterns (or custom text) is printed on canvas and then mounted on a 2″ deep birch museum frame to give it some modern dimension and bring some pop to you art collection.

Numsi Text

Plus, since the deep birch plywood cradle makes these blocks of art so sturdy, they can hang on the wall, sit on a shelf or anchor your latest mantlescape. So have some fun browsing their collection of animals and vehicles or patterns and text, because one of you is taking away a $100 credit towards anything on Numsi’s site this week (and the rest of you are taking away a sweet discount).

Numsi Animals Patterns

Here’s how to enter this week:

  • PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Numsi.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BLOCK ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since we’re referencing writer’s block, why not share a tip that you use to overcome any creativity or productivity block. Do you go someplace special to help you focus? Got an mental exercise to get your juice flowing again? Or do just go do something else and hope the motivation finds you again later.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 19th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Worldwide
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    BLOCK ME!

A brisk walk always helps me clear my mind. When I sit back down, I am more focused on whatever the task may be, creative or otherwise.

Well, speaking as a doctoral student writing her dissertation:
I either take a walk/do another activity, or dance in my office for a little while. ;)

    BLOCK ME!

I usually take a short break away from whatever I’m doing, and do something different for a minute to get my mind away from it. For example, I’ll play a game of solitaire on my phone, or a word game…. something to get my mind working on something different. Usually just a minute or two helps, then when I go back to my original task I’m rejuvenated and ready to go!

    Block me!

I’m super sensitive to my own clock… I work in literary PR and whenever possible, reserve mornings to do the heavy-lifting that requires writing, like press releases and media pitches, and try not to beat myself up if nothing inspiring comes through me after 3pm. At that point, it’s time to file and delegate the piles of emails in the inbox instead.

Nature helps me with my creative block! Especially now with all the greens :) We are working on our baby’s nursery (due Sept 29th) and I am having so much fun drawing from nature for all the unique things we have made.

    BLOCK ME

When creatively blocked on a project, I try to find outside sources of inspiration to get me back on track. Often that means taking the time to experience other’s creativity that is outside my field — so I go to the museum, see a movie or performance, or catch a lecture. Sometimes its as simple as flipping through a magazine or one of my favorite design books.

If that doesn’t work, or I don’t have time to get out and clear my head, I’ll work on another project, so that I am then able to take a step back and look at what I was doing with fresh eyes when I return to it.

I don’t really have any tips but I teach 5th grade and normally I have them, at the beginning of each writing unit, create a turnstyle paper wheel with various topics or content areas in which they are “experts” in which typically helps them throughout their writing.

Depends on the kind of blockage I have. If it’s in the classroom and I need an idea for how to teach something, I noodle it with my other friends who also teach. If it’s something else, I just go away from it for a while…it comes to me eventually (usually in the shower for some reason!).

I knit and dye yarn so when I get a mental block I take my kids out to the park and run wild with them. Usually gets my creative mind flowing once more and more than once I see something in nature that inspires me to knit or dye a colorway based on it.

I usually combat a mental block of any type ( like writers or financial budgeting) by stepping away from it …..to the great outdoors and some fresh air. If Im getting angry about it I will run. If I am just struggling to articulate exactly what I am after I will walk my dog. The break combined with fresh air really helps!
