Young House Love » Our First House » Bed Burgers

Bed Burgers

Since the month is half over, I thought I’d update you on how my make-the-bed-everyday-this-month resolution is going. The good news is that I haven’t missed a day. Promise. The bad news is that it usually looks like this  in less than an hour thanks to my main man Burger.

Bed Unmade By Burger

Can you really blame him? I guess if I were a dog I wouldn’t let anything stop me from sleeping in under some warm covers either. Well except maybe Pupperoni.

Despite his best efforts to thwart my resolution, I’m still going to keep making the bed each morning this month. And if all goes well, the habit will stick and I may just keep making it once November rolls around. Who knows. I’m crazy like that.

PS: I’m also doing pretty well on my other resolution to drink only water this month (aka: Aquatober). Although I sincerely hope soda misses me as much as I miss it.

Ha! Our Chihuahua Lulu does the exact same thing. We’ve just leave a blanket out for her to burrow in so the bed stays made.

Too funny! I don’t have a dog but two cats. When it turns cold they like to get under covers. You think with fur they wouldn’t get cold!

that is great! our doxie does the same, our solution was a down throw blanket purchased just for him and put on the chair in our bedroom (another one was added to the living room a few weeks later). He knows it’s his and he LOVES the warmth and he can burrow around and make the perfect den out of an untucked blanket.

Haha! Our chorkie (Chihuahua/Yorkie) does the same thing. And our Springer Spaniel knocks our throw pillows off our couches in the living room. She’ll start on one couch and move to each couch till they are all lying on the floor. It’s usually endearing, unless we’re having company. Then trying to trick people our house is put together is thwarted!

    Happy Monday!

My cat only lays in my bed if it’s not made … well mostly. (sometimes she lays on a made bed, but I’m pretty sure she likes the messy ones better!) And she’ll stay there all day if I let her.

PSST: I spotted you two over on Mrs. Limestone’s blog today; http://www.brooklynlimestone.com/2010/10/our-brush-with-fame.html .. Nate Berkus?

      Hey Amanda,

Yup, it’s pretty much the most exciting thing that ever happened to us. We’re just waiting to get clearance to blog about it. Can’t say much until the show airs, but we’re dying to drop the news a la Mrs. Limestone. Off to refresh my inbox in anticipation…

Too cute. I have a kitty with all kinds of quirks. I have a pillow with a cute sham on it that I use for nursing so it pretty much stays in the living room all the time (it is also the pillow I took to the hospital to give birth-thanks for the inspiration on that one). Anyways, our kitty manages to get inside the sham through the closure in the back of the pillow. She crawls right in, curls up, and goes to sleep. Silliest thing I have ever seen.

I guess it would, but you know how much we like things open and airy! Plus with the bambina we’re in and out of the bedroom all day (to grab errant burp cloths and boob pads and all those other delicious things) so closing the door behind us – especially with nary a free hand most of the time – might be a harder habit to get into than making the bed!

Have you heard the theory of leaving your bed un-made as it cools faster and attacts less bedbugs, etc. as it doesn’t retain the heat? I’m not sure if there is any truth to the idea but interesting given the outbreak of the little creepy crawlies lately!

I hadn’t heard that Amy, but after my adventure with bed bugs back in New York a few years ago it certainly makes me think twice. Fortunately we haven’t heard any cases of them in Richmond and we inspected our mattress thoroughly on our trip to NYC two weeks ago.

So far so good…. well, except beer during the UT game (go longhorns!) but in my defence its just wrong for me to have a steak, football and no beer.

I’m a lurker/first time commenter (found you recently from AT and your site is a daily stop for me now!)

I adore your home and Burger and gotta ask: How do you deal with the pet hair in bed? We have a smooth mini dachshund, who like Burger, LOVES our bed. I’ve taken to “sticky” rolling the sheets daily and washing weekly (if not more) but his little hairs are everywhere.

    Suggestions?

Maybe your guy is more of a shedder? Burger’s whole underside is bald and he doesn’t lose much hair in general so we don’t do anything other than wash the sheets once a week. Maybe brushing your guy outside will shake loose some fur instead of finding it in the bed? Good luck!
