So it’s been exactly a month since move-in day and it’s shameful to think that we haven’t shared a video tour of the place yet. We officially accept a virtual slap on the wrist. Or a noogie if you’re old school. But no indian burns. Gotta draw the line somewhere.
Anyway, after unpacking, list making, nursery painting, door frosting, bi-fold removing, duvet ordering, bed-assembling, washer & dryer hunting, shelf removing, Christmas tree decorating, playing with ceramic animals built-in bookcase arranging, built-in bookcase painting, dealing with a plethora of mirrors (some in very odd places), bedroom painting, Christmas tree dismantling, and waiting for our new washer & dryer to arrive (update: they’re here! more details later!) we finally broke out the Flip and took it for a quick spin around the new digs. Watch it below or here on YouTube (and if you’re at work, you can mute it and still get a pretty good idea of what we’re dealing with). Oh and I wholeheartedly apologize for Blair Witching you guys. I’m not exactly slow and steady with a camera:
Since it would take hours to discuss all of the half-baked projects on our to-do list, this tour is meant to give you a better sense of the layout and how each room connects (while providing some never before seen angles of rooms and shots of things like our closet, our kitchen sink, etc). When it comes to what we’ll do in the future (along with how we’ll do it and why we’ll do it) we honestly like to take those things one day at a time to keep from getting too overwhelmed.
So hopefully you’ll enjoy a look around our house without tossing out any “what are your plans for this sink/bed/wall/room/window?” or “are you keeping/painting/replacing those fill-in-the-blank” or “have you considered doing such & such?” questions. Not because we don’t love your inquisitive nature, but because in truth we’re most likely not set on anything yet and have tons of ideas swirling around in our heads. Which is why we’re so set on taking things as they come and blogging about each and every project & decision that we make as we tackle them in real-time (instead of doing a lot of future conjecturing). Things always change along the way anyway.
Oh and we figured we’d include the rough floor plan that we shared before moving in for easy cross reference. You know, if you’re the cross-referencing type (I’m not. Hubs is). Let the record state that some rooms are labeled differently in the pic below than they’re called in the video (ex: we labeled the future dining room as “living room” below, since that’s what it is now. But there’s more info over here (and another floor plan that reflects how we plan to change the layout/rooms as we go).
Maybe once we’re further along with the transformation, we’ll shoot a more formal house tour without me behind the wheel. Again I apologize for all of the spinning, shaking, and other nausea inducing maneuvers. Fingers crossed that nobody lost their lunch croissant/cheerio’s/pop tart/egg sandwich on the tour. But if you did, at least it was virtual. Which means no clean up on my end. Can’t complain.

Heard your Sleep Sheep in the nursery! LOVE that lil gadget. My almost 15-month-old daughter STILL uses hers as we transition her into her own bedroom (she has always slept with me in the master…and that is getting old, lol). What a great invention!

So the desk that you built seemed so much larger in the smaller office/guest bedroom/playroom. Does it seem small to work at now that it’s in a larger space?

Such a beautiful house…All I can think of when I see your future dining room is that a beautiful bold wallpaper would look gorgeous in there, especially something that coordinates with your newly-painted shelving walls. 1st, I had to giggle at the amount of times that people asked about the sound machine in the comments. I like your way of handling it; copying and pasting the same answer.
2nd, I am beyond jealous that you can walk in the room while Clara sleeps…my 18 month old is up like a fireman if you even breath near his door (hence my not even batting an eyelash at the iPod sound machine which we use as well)
3rd, I forgive you. (What, you didn’t know I was upset?) I was really bummed you bought a house that seemed so much like your last one. I was hoping for something more Colonial or Victorian since that’s what we have up here in Boston. But now that I’ve seen the whole place I’ve fallen in love with it. Thanks for the tour! Otherwise I never would have realized that the office is connected to the kitchen.

I have a completely unrelated comment to your post. My husband and I just bought our first house and moved in right after Thanksgiving. We are slowly but surely making it our’s and right now our “to do” list is mostly painting (to save money for the other things like buy furniture to fill the place, etc.) Anyway, we are sorta stuck on our bedroom. We want to go with a light brownish color to keep it neutral and make sure it’s not too matchy matchy with our duvet and sheet set. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for that. I know you haven’t seen the room or bed set, but if there are any “go to” light brownish colors that you know/like, it would really help. I’m just not finding what I’m looking for in the paint swatches I’ve brought home. Thanks!

With all the windows, outside is “busy” so I’m not sure whether or not to do a neutral paint color? We are currently painting lots of blues/grays etc. and a little lost with the sun room. Thoughts?

Would you have set up your room in one of the rooms next to her if she was still a tiny infant? We’ve had Clara sleeping in her own room since day one, so we’re used to being a ways away from her in the evening (in our last house we’d watch TV in the den across the house although our room was right across the hall). We rely on our sound/breathing monitor which gives us tons of piece of mind (we hear every breath she takes). It’s definitely a personal decision, but we haven’t ever been worried about the distance from our room to hers. And it doesn’t seem to bother Clara – the girl sleeps like a champ!

We have a Flip and got a lens for it at Christmas that makes it a wider field of view. You might find it useful. They’re not expensive and we’ve really loved the ability to be close to the subject and still get a good field of view. We have this one (http://amzn.to/gqcFCG) and it’s great!

Not for at least a few years. Clara and I had some complications so it’s doctor’s orders to give my body a few years to heal before getting pregnant again, and I’m happy to enjoy Clara and soak up every moment that I can with her in the meantime. She’s totally enough to keep us busy and smiling!

Thanks for the tour! We have a ranch in South Carolina and the layout is identical (pre 70s add-on)all the way down to the tiny master shower. Only my tile is gray and PINK along with the toilet. I think it is funny how in the 50s they took a house plan and said “This is the one!” and subsequently built one in every city and town (at least in the south/east coast). Look forward to all your re-dos!!

I have a similar entryway (non-existent) and trying to figure out how to make it a welcoming entryway, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys do. I LOVE the idea of a large dining room for entertaining, we are in the process of converting one of our living rooms next to the kitchen into a dining space as well. I have noticed, and I am sure you do to, that whenever friends and family come over, we all gravitate towards the kitchen. Can’t wait to see your progress.

Were you able to register for your Angelcare monitor somewhere? I can only find it on Amazon with the two monitors. The ones at Target only have one monitor. Countless friends and family members favored the Ergo so that made the decision an easy one. We love it and still use it eight months later (Clara definitely still enjoys it and snuggles in for a nap every time). And we registered for our Angel Care monitor at Buy Buy Baby (where we registered for a fair amount of other things- they have really good organic stuff). We actually registered and received one with one pad and then paid something like $23 to their company directly for them to send us another pad once Clara started rolling around a lot. Hope it helps!

What a great house full of opportunity! I’m so impressed that you’ve only been there a short time and yet have things so well set up.
My husband and I moved twice last year (long story), and it took months to get things figured out and unboxed. Granted, we’ve only been married a year. I guess it takes awhile.
