Fab Freebie: Paint Me A Picture

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Studio Eriksdotter.

    Paint me a Picture!

My favorite one of a kind art is a finger painting my daughter did on her first birthday…it is quite good and makes me so happy when I look at it and realize I will always have that memory of her first birthday!

We don’t have many one-of-a-kind pictures in our house, but we do have some one-of-a-kind photography from our trips that I love.

PAINT ME A PICTURE! My favorite original piece is one I purchased on ebay when I first moved out on my own. It reminds me of a place in the woods I used to go as a child, and the artist used pretty much every color to depict it.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE

I am from WV, and I have a charcoal sketch done by a local artist of the Mountaineer stature on WVU’s campus. The sketch itself isn’t the best part. My neighbors got it for me as a college graduation gift, and each of their six kids made their mark on the giant envelope it came in. So cute!

PAINT ME A PICTURE! – My favorite piece of artwork is a drawing of roses and leaves that my mother’s sorority sister drew in 1977. She used pencil and what looks like some water colors to execute the full thing but the cross hatching is gorgeous! Who would of known that something that was given to my mom as a gift back in 1977 would wind up one of my favorite pieces in 2010.

    Paint me a picture!

My favorite pictures are the ones I’ve painted myself in the house. They are all abstract and simple, but even a few bold colors put on a canvas seem to pop better than your stock scenery/cliche art that is sold at big box retailers.

I don’t know if it’s one of a kind, but I picked up an original photo at an antique shop of two clowns from the 1920’s. They aren’t the creepy, what nightmares are made of clowns….the look more like mimes. I’ve been collecting lots of art for an entryway gallery wall.

My favorite piece of artwork is from my little sister who made a mask as part of a high school project. She then painted the twin towers behind the eyes (along with the rest of the skyline) and put tears coming down. It was done in 2002. Our older sister had left her apt. right near the towers for San Fran in aug 2001.

There is a local artist, Tim Davis that takes abstract photos of the sides of train boxcars. The photos are close ups and the oxidized, painted, rusted cars and make for some very interesting art.

A girl that wanted to date my husband a long time ago, before we met, painted a HUGE portrait of Dave Matthews. It now hangs in our living room and it’s my favorite piece of art in our house. And it makes us laugh when we think of the story behind it. It’s actually quite bizzar when you get all the details. :)

    PAINT ME A PICTURE! (Please?)

I am fortunate to have lots one-of-a-kind artwork pieces that I love. My husband and I try to pick out artwork on vacations. I also have several pieces done by my sister who died at the age of 23. She loved to draw/paint/create and never got the chance to really show off her artwork. I made a promise to myself that my home will always be her gallery.
