Fab Freebie: Maine Attractions
***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***
It’s a shame we can’t take any major road trips right now (thanks to our wee one) since this week’s giveaway has us itching to head north to Kennebunkport, Maine. That’s because Spaces Kennebunkport- the shop behind today’s prize- embodies just the type of comfortable seaside home accents that Sherry and I love. Never mind that we can barely spell the name… we still want to eat up everything in their store.
But have no fear if you also can’t make it out to K-town. Spaces Kennebunkport has an awesome online shop and one of you is gonna win a $150 gift certificate to spend there. Score.
And not that we’re in the business of telling people how to spend their prize money, but here are some things we would totally snag for ourselves:
Wanna take home some of this beachy bliss? Here’s how to enter this week’s Fab Freebie (oh, and stay tuned for a discount code this Thursday):
- PRIZE: $150 toward anything in Spaces Kennebunkport’s shop
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MAINE ME!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … since our giveaway sponsors reside in a fairly uniquely-named town, we’d love to know of any unique / weird / funny city names that you live in, have visited, or have noticed on a map (i.e. Love, VA; Bummerville, CA; Sweet Lips, TN)
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 2nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the USA
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I used to live in PA which has crazy town names all over the place, with classics like Intercourse. Now that we moved to VA, Bumpass is a favorite.

MAINE ME! I’m super psyched to see a giveaway from my home state. Kennebunkport is a fun town to visit, so this would be the perfect opportunity for a little road trip down the coast!

Maine Me!
I’m from a town called Paradise! Located in Northern California. It is not as tropical and relaxing as it sounds. More of a retirement community. Great name, none-the-less.
Thanks! Love all the work you’ve done.
MAINE ME!
I have been to Kennebunkport and it’s beautiful there! I grew up in a town called Flower Mound in Texas. Definitely get some strange looks when I tell people where I’m from.
MAINE ME!
My hometown is near, “Normal”, MN.
MAINE ME!
The only odd city name I remember is Ursa, IL just because it’s similar to my name Ursula. I used to live near Niceville, FL which is a pretty funny name the first time you hear it. :)

When I used to live in Kentucky, there was a small town that we’d always stop in for gas in between Louisville and Lexington, called Waddy, Kentucky.
“Main Me!”
MAINE ME!
Also, I grew up in Succasunna, NJ. While it’s not a difficult word, I would constantly have to spell it for people. It means “Black Dirt” or something close to that in Lenape; and yes, the soil is very dark and rich.
MAINE ME! The oddest sounding name of a place I visited was Cochabamba in Bolivia.
MAINE ME!
This one isn’t too crazy but always makes me laugh–Dumfries, Va :)

MAINE ME!!
I have only lived in one city, but have heard of Hobo Station, MS!!
Love the site!
MAINE ME! Bonus Question: I live in West Texas, and the stark landscape necessitates a lot of creativity when naming towns. Out here we’ve got No Trees (pretty self-explanatory), Floydada (named after town founders, Floyd and Ada), Pep (You’ve gotta have it out here!), Sundown (because of our excellent sunsets), Shallowater (the only water we’ve got), and Sudan (a bit of an overstatement, if you ask me!). Thanks, Lauri.
MAINE ME!
The only funny name I can think of is a town in NY Ho-Ho-Kus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ho-Ho-Kus,_New_Jersey
Love your site!

How about Kickapoo, IL? Makes me laugh when I say it.

I’d love to go to Hell Michigan in the winter, and take a picture next to the city sign with snow on the ground. Something appeals to me about being in Hell when it’s frozen over.
Maine me! I grew up in Los Alamos, NM — people call it “Lost Almost” because it’s in the middle of nowhere and used to be a secret place.
maine me!
LOL – can’t really think of funny city names but I’m chuckling the ones in the comments so far.
MAINE ME!!
We’re big fans fo Hills, IA, b/c the only hill for miles is actually a man made on and off ramp :)
MAINE ME!!! I love visiting Kennebunkport and can’t wait to visit Spaces.
I’ve passed through Ponkapoag, MA and thought it was a great town name!
