Reader Redesign: She’s Got Game

Kate’s playroom makeover is nothing short of a miracle! Here’s her letter:

You two are the best, and I read your blog everyday. I just redid the bonus room in our house and wanted to pass it along. Thanks for being such an inspiration! -Grateful, Kate

Here’s the chaotic and cluttered before:

And the amazingly organized after:

Can you believe that gorgeous oversized map on the wall (trimmed out of course)? And those cute orange letters above the window (spray painted by Kate herself!)? We love all the creative DIY touches that make the room so personal and memorable, and we have a feeling you guys are gonna love it too. To learn more about the makeover, you can pop in on Kate’s cute blog. Long live affordable DIY deliciousness!

Holy cow, I love that room! I MUST know where she got that map. :D

Wow, that’s impressive. I can’t wait to check out Kate’s blog. Thanks for sharing it!

Ooooh, nice :) That room just seems to invite you, “Come play a game and enjoy time together!”. My favorite part is the two chairs with the pedestal table between. Chess, baby ;)

With the floor pillows and those two chairs available to bring around the generous coffee table, that room is perfect for Kate and her hubby to play cards or board games with their *own* friends, and still great for kiddie games, too. I love it when children’s things are mixed into the family instead of hidden away in other spaces – this room is a room for everyone :)

Great job, Kate!!!

XO,
Jacci

Oops, not a pedestal table – but I still love that little game playing nook for two :)

Love the map. Please let us know where it can be found/ordered. Looks great, outstanding color choices!

oh she put the fun in functional! love those orange boxes and file folders! great job Kate!

Thanks Sherry and John for the post ! Yes, that map continues to amaze guests. It would make a wonderful backdrop to an office or guest room. It’s available at National Geographic for $99 in “earth” colors.

Congrats on the Project Showcase win, Kate! And thanks so much for the map info. It really is a stunner!

Wow! The difference is amazing, great job Kate!

What a wonderful transformation and a special space to grow up with. I love that it seems like it will transition easily to a more adult later in life as well.

Love it! The orange is terrific.

I love the map! I’ve always wanted to frame a map in my living room – I had NO idea you could get them this large.

I think I am going to steal this whole room! Our bonus room used to have a wall of various maps — but when kids came along they started tearing them off. I love the idea of the big map! The whole room looks great!

WOW! Fantastic! Great use of the color orange, so bright and cheery!

LOVE it! I especially adore the maps!

Oh no! What happened to the list of favorite blogs?! Instead of saving them to my computer, I would just come here & click through them to read! Here’s hoping you bring this feature back!

Fantastic reno Kate! Love the after pics……….thanks so much for sharing.

Off to check out Kate’s blog. What a great makeover.

Hey Courtney G,

We were having some blog issues yesterday so we were forced to take down our Link Love section for the time being. We’re working through it and hope to have it back up asap!

Sherry

WOW! Straight out of a magazine! I LOVE maps. What a lucky girl.

Oh, wow, that is amazing! The map is such a great feature of the room. I love the punches of orange and the organization, too. Fabulous job, Kate!

I love the way the room is quite grown up and elegant yet down to earth and fun all at the same time. The colour palette is really lovely, I like the pops of orange. great job!

Oh how I love me some Kate. And this room redo is no exception! I’m so happy to see you featured her on your blog!

i LOVE this! that map is amazing. the whole room looks great. i am inspired! love it!

Great job! It’s awesome and I love the creative details!

The map from the National Geographic store is now 20% off. I am going to get one! I’d love to hear from Kate how they framed it. The wood frame is easy, but how did they adhere it to the frame? Was there a backing? If so, what type?
