This post could be called a tease but I like to consider it a keeping-you-posted thing. So many folks are wondering what’s going on around here, so a picture’s worth a thousand words, right? More pics and deets later!

Psst- To anyone wondering about the vents, there’s more info on how we’ve dealt with those here. As for the electrical wire, ours guy’s coming out to get on that.

Yup, gotta tear it all down to build something like that back up after the header is in. More details this afternoon hopefully!

    Ah, gotta love the demo.
My mom would have been pushing them aside to knock down the wall herself. That woman does love to tear apart a house.

Nope! No plaster or drywall behind the paneling either. Lots of surprises!

That’s an interior wall, normally no insulation is on the interior walls, unless specifically requested. BEST MONEY I EVER SPENT was insulating all interior walls when I built a house.

We just couldn’t bare that paneling for one more day! We’ll definitely have some touch ups now, but it was nice to brighten things up for a few months before the wall came down too.

I’m with you guys. We are painting our entire house because if I had to spend a single winter longer with dark wood paneling and other grossness I was going to scream. That said, we’re gutting the entire house in a year or so. Likely before that when the addition goes up this spring. Sometimes you just need some paint.

I’m curious why you don’t deal with moving the electrical yourself? I’m wondering if it’s because you’d rather not deal with electrical or if there is some other reason to pay someone else to do this step.

We do anything we’re comfortable enough tackling ourselves, and we’re happy to hire pros for anything that we think is beyond our skill set and worry about for safety reasons (all structural stuff, some electrical stuff, and some plumbing stuff can all add up to “breaking” the house via collapse, a house fire, or a flood). An hourly rate for a licensed and certified electrician to help us safely reroute an outlet is money well spent to us! Although we definitely recognize that some DIY folks are a lot more proficient and comfortable dealing with that stuff themselves!
