Young House Love » Our Second House » Somebody’s Watching Me

Somebody’s Watching Me

Something about the knobs in our kitchen make us feel like we’re being watched.

Eyeballs Before

Maybe you don’t see it, but after staring at them for the last few weeks, they’re starting to look a little something like this to us:

Eyeballs After

My favorite is the pirate.

But something’s definitely going to have to be done sooner or later. We feel like we’re living in that crazy Geico commercial – only without the good fortune of a stack of money sitting nearby (with some techno music blaring in the background). Speaking of which, we highly recommend playing the Geico commercial below while looking at the picture above. It really enhances the whole experience.

Now we can’t eat breakfast without singing “Somebody’s watching meeeeeeee.”

Someday down the line for sure. But for now we’re just entertaining ourselves by picturing different faces every day. And humming the Geico song.

It’s starting to take shape, but we’re still not ready to pull the trigger. We’re big believers in living with things a while and going over lots of potential options in your mind before jumping in and doing something major that you might regret. Things like wall color can so easily be changed, but kitchens and bathrooms are usually much bigger projects. So we’re happy to gain a little momentum before tackling the major stuff in there. Although brainstorming ideas is one of our favorite hobbies these days. You can never be too prepared!

We have big plans for the kitchen, we just like to live with things for a bit before making huge changes, just to be sure we think them through. We would never want to be hasty and regret things down the road!

Oh my goodness, this is so funny! And I totally see what you’re talking about. I used to find weird stuff like that all the time in my parents house. For example, there was an area on my closet doors where my dad added too much stain, and in my mind’s eye it looked like a turtle climbing up the door. Rather than take a picture and photoshop what I was seeing though, I just took a black Sharpie and drew in the turtle’s eyes and shell. My eight year old brain was so proud and I exclaimed “Mommy, look! I told you it looks like a turtle!” Mommy was not happy…

I think the corner cabinet looks like it’s having a conversation with itself.

I’m sure you’ve thought about spraypaint, but I’m going to give a little testimonial anyway. I used oil rubbed bronze spraypaint with a clear topcoat on our bathroom hardware; it looks exactly the same now as it did six months ago when I first did it.

Every time I see that awful kitchen I just want to at least slap some paint on it or preferably take a crow bar to it! The cabinets, the back splash, the paneling, the counters, the floor – so many things to fix. If you could just let me at your kitchen and your parquet floors with a crow bar, I would be a very content girl. But I’d be stealing all your fun!

    LOL at the pirate!

Hahaha! I love it! You are so right! Eyeball pulls… why is it that people design stuff for the house to very slyly represent parts of the body? Like, and pardon my silliness, but boob lights… what’s up with that? Like I want to look up in someone’s house and feel like a lit up breast is lighting my way. For example:
