Oh Brother! (Or Sister?)

We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is currently under construction. Our new addition is expected on May 19th. We’re thrilled, even though a certain someone won’t be the baby anymore…

BurgerBigBrother

Yup, Sherry’s got a proverbial bun in her proverbial oven. And we couldn’t be more elated to share the news with you guys! More details to follow on Friday (so ask any and all q’s and we’ll answer as many as we can at the end of the week).

Until then it’s back to before & afters and DIY ideas- we’re nothing if not home obsessed…

So very happy for you guys! (And a bit selfishly for me too, as I’m also expecting our first child–due April 30–and I’m looking forward to seeing your nursery ideas, which I’m sure will be beautiful!) We also live in a 1950s brick ranch and are re-doing our basement, so are thankful to have you guys to turn to for inspiration on multiple projects. Best wishes for a healthy, happy pregnancy!

Congrats guys! I have been following your blog for a while and I’m really looking forward to seeing your nursery ideas and your home changes with a little one, (especially tasteful babyproofing…still haven’t figures that out….)

My husband and I are expecting our third and we live in a small (1000 sqft) house in DC. You have more than enough room, trust me! We lived in a 700sqft 1BD condo with our first baby. There are a lot of baby gadgets that are a waste of space and money. Best word of advice,1: stick with the basics, 2: don’t buy to much until the baby comes and 3: get things that have multiple purposes / can grow with the baby.

PS: Ikea is a GREAT place for baby stuff. I have seen some unbelievable ikea crib hacks. And thier cribs are sturdy and cheap! A+ for the Gulliver Crib!

Here are some great ikea hacks.

oooo forgot to post questions for you to answer on friday. i’m sure most of these have already been asked, but what the heck:
    1. are you going to find out the gender right away or wait til he/she comes out?
    2. obviously you like neutral colors, but do you think your nursery decor will also be neutral (genderwise especially)?
    3. do you already have name ideas in mind or are you the type to wait to actually meet the kid before you name him/her?
    4. along those lines, are family names important to you, such as great grandmother’s name or multiple men with the same name?
    5. when the baby begins exploring the house, do you think you’ll be giving up a lot in terms of design elements in order to make your house baby safe? (nothing’s baby proof)

I thought of a couple questions, all of which I’m sure have been asked in the 18 pages of comments but I’ll post them anyways!

Sherry, how did you end up telling John that you were pregnant? What was the first thing he said?

Are you going to have baby related blog posts and keep us updated? Maybe you could start a special Baby Blog like you did with Hamburger’s House!

Congratulations! This is a very exciting time in your lives. Just make sure you get your big two man projects out of the way, cuz once a baby arrives you’ll be like “ok you hold the baby and I’ll paint the trim!” Get yourself a good Mei Tai (or sling or Moby wrap) asap!

    Can’t wait to see baby’s room :0)!

    I have some great questions:

Do you have a pet name for the kiddo already? Do you have real names picked out already?

Will you find out what the sex is?

Are you going to take maternity leave from the blog. I love your blog, and I look forward to your posts everyday, and while I’d miss you guys while you’re gone, I am in COMPLETE support of you taking a break. Having a newborn is no joke (although I’m sure you guys will be great) – and you’ll need that rest!

CONGRATS!!! Stock up on diapers as soon as you can! I started buying them when I was like 6 months along and didn’t need to buy a pack until he was about 6 months old! I even gave about 7 packs away to a friend who was pregnant at the time.

Congrats, guys! It’s funny, I just decided to catch up on YHL after several days of not even having enough energy to keep up with my Google Reader feed, and this is the first new post I see. Why is that funny? Because the reason I’ve been so energy-deficient lately, I just learned earlier this week, is that I’m also expecting! I’m about three weeks behind Sherry, and I cannot wait to see what kind of ideas you guys come up with for your nursery. Congrats again!
