Now Expanding

We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.

Bean Clara

The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.

Bean Sherry

(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)

Bean John

Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.

Bean Burger

Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!

Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

I love that you shared photos of the whole family to commemorate the announcement. Thank you for sharing your lives with us!

I’ve loved your blog since it had that other name. I’m already looking forward to what you do with the nursery, quotes from the new kiddo (I love the “Clara Conversations”, and if/how you babyproof the stairs.

Even now, when I ask my husband how expensive something is, he says: “expensive” I say: “how expensive” and if things are really bad, he replies “I almost dropped the baby expensive” We remember the stone for that patio!

Not that you need another comment saying this, but CONGRATULATIONS! And I honestly do have a question or two… =)

After reading your post on cloth diapers we decided to give them a trial run. We got 2 flip style (the inserts just sit on top of the liner) and 2 bumgenius pocket-type. I love the fun patterns with bumgenius, but I have to agree stuffing them is a little bit of a pain, so flip wins there. So. 2 questions. Where did you guys get your ‘all in one’s’? I’d love to try them, but I can’t seem to find them now. Have they been discontinued?

And secondly, I’m noticing an odd smell on the liners, but only some of the time. Example: I wash them in a hot fast wash (in my normal/non-fancy top loader) with a scoop of Charlies, and all seems good. No smell. Then I dry them in our dryer, and there’s now a tiny bit of odd smell. But once my daughter wets it at all, it suddenly smells like I’ve left that diaper on my poor girl for days! This wasn’t the case when we first bought them. Do you think they’re just not getting clean? Have you guys had any experience with this? Thanks!

Hmm, that’s odd! We never had that with ours, so it makes me wonder if something is happening in the dryer. Could it be moldy or something? Like the smell is coming from there? Anyone have ideas for Sarah?

Congratulations! I’m so thrilled that you’re going for it again. And that you’ve been able to have some privacy about it these past few months – well done!

I’m selfishly super excited because I’m pregnant (with twins!) right along with you! Mine are due in May, so they’ll probably arrive in April. I lost my first son at birth and then had two miscarriages so I’m in the high risk category too, but I’m just excited that that means I get to have extra specialists on board – we can use all the help we can get when there’s residual fear lurking around!

By the way, if you haven’t kicked the morning sickness yet, I highly recommend supplementing with magnesium and B-vitamins (if you google magnesium and morning sickness, you can find some good articles – by Mommypotamus, I think). I never knew about it until a few weeks ago but that combo totally kicked my nausea’s butt!

    Super duper congratulations!!

This is probably too late to make it on tomorrow’s Q&A but I’m wondering: other than the nursery, what projects are you thinking ‘Oh crap… this needs to get done NOW’ and throwing straight to the top of the list? Are there any projects you can’t possibly imagine dealing with the consequences of having not tackled once you’ve got a newborn to look after (again)?

Of course… you may still be trying to figure it out :-)

I remember a friend of mine getting pregnant and immediately ripping up all the carpet (thankfully you finished that part), buying a new fridge, and unpacking all of the boxes still closed from moving almost a year before (and then she turned around moved again 6 months later).

I reread Clara’s birth story last night. Heart wrenching for sure. With my pregnancy, we had placental issues and she was malnourished in-utero and arrived at 37 weeks weighing a whopping four pounds. She’s two now, healthy and still tiny.

I wanted to tell you though my mom had a placental abruption with my older sister. Mom was in for a doctor’s visit at 41 weeks when she started hemorrhaging on the table. My sister was born just a few minutes later at the adjoining hospital. She too suffered no lasting ill effects. Mom and Dad, even after forty-five years, still have a hard time talking about that day.

I came along five years later. Mom had absolutely no complications with her second pregnancy other than having to have a repeat C-section at 39 weeks. They actually did plastic surgery on her scar at the time because, in their haste to deliver my older sister, mom’s c-section scar was extremely jagged.

Prayers for a safe and very uneventful pregnancy and delivery.
