Now Expanding

We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.

Bean Clara

The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.

Bean Sherry

(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)

Bean John

Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.

Bean Burger

Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!

Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

    WHAT!!!????
    How did I miss this????
Congratulations on the ultimate DIY project!!!!!!

    OMG…questions….
Sherry, what happens? How do you keep us informed and entertained about all things home with a new baby? Will there be “maternity leave”? Will this change the focus of the YHL? More decorating and crafts??? (These questions are all very spontaneous…) Will you find out if it’s a boy or a girl? Will you tell your readers? Names???? How’s Clara feeling about all this?

John! Do not let her on a ladder. I don’t even think she should paint any more trim. All your readers could chip in and get you guys a painter to knock out the rest of the blue trim as a shower gift!

I’m so happy for you guys! Every morning I catch up on the news. It’s such a drag – gov’t shut downs, climate reports, motorcyclists beating up SUV driving dads, etc. After that, I love to come here to be inspired to make the most of my home so I can nurture and enjoy my family. Thanks for that. :)

    (I hope it’s a boy :))

I am so excited for you!!! I love watching your family grow and, in all honesty, your posts about your pregnancy and Clara’s adventures have helped me become a little more thoughtful about what I buy or the keepsakes I create for my own kiddos.

(P.S. I am certain you could hear my “Sqeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!” of excitement all the way from here in Virginia Beach.)

Yay! Huge congrats!! Since you asked for questions, I’ll ask this horribly personal one (I’m sorry if it’s too personal – feel free to completely ignore) – have you thought about whether you’re going to have another C-section or try for a VBAC? I only ask because I ended up with an emergency C-section with my first child and so I value hearing what other people think about going for a repeat C-section or trying for a VBAC. Thanks! And yay for you again!

I’m curious about what Sherry and John have to say about this too.

My cousin also had to have a C-section with her first and decided to try for a VBAC, if she could, with her second. She waited just long enough to get pregnant with her second and was given the okay.

She was very specific with her doctors about what she wanted (no cutting – she wanted to tear naturally, etc.) and everything ended up working out great.

It made for some really funny birth stories too: In the room with my cousin was her husband, her mom, and her sister and the doctor was telling her to push hard during one of her contractions and she let out the loudest, longest fart. Her mom, her sister, and her husband all look at each other and bust up laughing and can’t stop! The doctor even laughed a little! My cousin tries to tell them to stop because she’s embarrassed but she’s laughing too, so after they stop laughing her doctor says they’ll go ahead and skip this contraction and wait for the next one!

Then during another contraction when the baby’s head is making its way out my cousin says she’s changed her mind!! My aunt laughs at her and tells her it’s too late for that!

But in the end my cousin was SO MUCH HAPPIER that she went with the VBAC instead of another C-section. She said it was so much easier on her body and the recovery was great. Her recovery from the C-section was terrible and added to having a new baby.. she did not want a repeat of that.

There are even more hilarious stories but (even though I doubt many people will read this book I wrote on page 60-something of the comments) they might not be okay for all YHL readers, so I’ll restrain myself, I guess.

A huge congrats to you crazy kids!!!! I’m so excited to watch your family grow. Also, not meant to be creepy at all, I had a dream that you guys announced a pregnancy the night before last (i.e., I was dreaming that I was reading your website and you had an announcement about a pregnancy). I had to do a double take when I actually read the post (like, did I already know that?). Apparently, I have a gift.

    Congrats again!!!

Yayy!!! This is so exciting! My sister is due in April too and she was very excited to hear that “Younghouselove” is due then too! lol.

I too have horrible 24/7 sickness in my pregnancies. I’m currently pregnant as well and this time the only thing (and I tried everything suggested) that gave me a little bit of relief was pure, orange essential oil. You can put a drop in water and drink it that way. I could not keep water down at all, but if I did this I not only could keep it down but it actually helped alleviate some of the nausea! Not everything works the same for everyone but just wanted to suggest it! :)

Congratulations!!!! I know you have waited a long time for this.

I just read thru the comments and cannot not believe the rudeness of some people. Two weeks ago, I mention to my sister that I thought Sherry was pregnant because John was writing most of the posts compared to how it used to be. I felt that Sherry probably had morning sickness which kept her otherwise occupied. We talked about the possibility, but it stopped there. If and when you guys made the announcement was your business, but we were hoping that you were expecting because I remembered how disappointed you were when the doctor told you to wait three years before getting pregnant again.
Good luck and please enjoy this exciting time. There are a lot of people cheering the good news.

Congrats! I love reading your blog but never comment. I felt compelled to write to you because I also had a placental abruption at 39 weeks with my first child- hands down the most terrifying experience of my life. I also get teary when I think about my husband sitting in the waiting area in his scrubs with his head in his hands having no idea what is going on with me or the baby. I am now 35 weeks pregnant with my second- yeah! I know how terrifying it can be going through another pregnancy with a chance that it could happen again but wanted to let you know that it can turn out to be a totally normal pregnancy as well! I will be sending you good thoughts! Enjoy this exciting time!

Congratulations! I’m a big fan of your blog. I have a question for your Q&A. My husband and I are hoping to have a baby soon, too, and we’re big DIY-ers ourselves. How do you deal with painting to avoid any risks? Maybe I’m just over paranoid, but want to be cautious of the smell, residue, etc. especially during that delicate first trimester.

So excited for you and excited to read about your pregnancy! I hope you continue to share the deets in the life blog. I’m wondering how you told John and Clara? My brother and sister in law told our family by dropping off my niece to be babysat wearing a t-shirt that read “I’m going to be a big sister!” I still crack up thinking about how my dad called my mom asking her what she thought it meant. Seriously? Anyway, hoping you have an easygoing and uneventful pregnancy and delivery in the nicest way. Can’t wait to read the Q&A!

And I re-read Clara’s birth story and WOW. Thanks for sharing that with us and good job getting through it all. It certainly made me weep. Especially when you describe John in the hall alone.
