Now Expanding

We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.

Bean Clara

The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.

Bean Sherry

(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)

Bean John

Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.

Bean Burger

Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!

Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

CONGRATS!!!! I seem to be one of the few that didn’t expect this news for some time to come. How exciting! Kudos to you both for managing a toddler, your crazy schedule, the move and overall stress/crappy feeling/worry of first trimester life. Hopes and prayers for a smooth journey!

I hate to be a buzz kill… but could you indulge me in some house talk? We are removing the builder grade carpet going up our stairs and hallway landing. Budget can’t expand enough for new treads/risers and a runner, so I figure a high-traffic patterned nylon would be a fun alternative for now (and possibly ever!). The stairs greet you shortly upon entry, much like your house, so I want to find something eye-catching but not distracting. I’ve narrowed it down to two choices… would love your vote (if you have time amongst these thousands of comments!).

Congratulations, Petersik family! What an exciting season in life it is for you all. I will be praying for an easy and care free pregnancy- you deserve it! I am currently in my third trimester after experiencing a difficult pregnancy that sadly resulted in my sweet daughter passing away shortly after birth. While worries can be consuming, I’m trying to just focus on each day and celebrate each happy moment as it comes. What are you doing, Sherri (or John) to help ease any anxieties you might have?

Because of you, I went the Bumgenius route along with Lifefactory bottles. You guys really inspired me to go green and organic when selecting crib sheets, clothes, bath products etc. Has anything else come on the market since Miss Clara was an infant that you are anxious to try?

Congratulations again. I am so looking forward to following your little joy’s journey.

I just finished reading every single one of your 6years worth of posts (I totally deserve a badge). It took me about 18months but I LOVED the ride! Thank you for being so positive and for generously sharing what you do with others. You just continue to get stronger and stronger. What a fantastic time to be up to date and reading your special news on the day it’s announced. : )

Question for the Q&A. Maybe this is too intense of a question for the blog/for the public but I also had a very normal pregnancy go wonky at the end. I delivered a month early with an emergency c-section and my son spent 3 weeks in NICU. Im having a hard time imagining pulling the trigger again!! Im so freaked to go through all of that again and have another baby in the NICU. I know you mentioned being scared to get pregnant again. How did you get passed it! Im sorry if even the question brings up bad memories!

So, so happy for your family! I will be keeping you in my prayers, as I know there is some fear there from Clara’s birth story. Everything will be fine. :)

This post almost makes me wish I was pregnant too! Almost… (My 13 month old is enough of a handful for now! Haha) but it really is such a special time.

Congratulations! That is wonderful news, and props on the adorable announcement! How cute that you and Katie B. are pregnant together with such close due dates again! I’m also excited because I’m pregnant with my first, due in mid-February, and I love that I’m pregnant “along side” you both. Can’t wait to see your nursery & other baby-related purchases and projects!

I’m curious to see what items you held on to from Clara’s baby days (like the play mat in the ‘future nursery’ pics), and what you wished you had kept or what you were glad you gave away/sold/etc. I know a lot of people hang on to baby stuff but not always when there’s a bigger age gap.

This is so exciting. I hit the end of my first trimester today (huzzah!), so I ALSO have an expanding family and an April baby. Maybe they’ll be birthday buddies from afar! (I hope this isn’t too creepy or anything). I am so excited for you all (is burger stoked to be a big brother?) and I hope that the whole nausea/vomiting (I totally sympathize) and all the other joys that come with baking a bean begin to subside.

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

I have a wee man who is 3 days older than Clara and we’re trying for number 2 (I would say too, but you’re already preggers, woohoo! :))

Clara will be a great big sister and will be an awesome helper for you and in a better place to understand what’s going on. My husband has 4 years between him and his sister and they’re great friends. (I think I just started trying to make myself feel better about the age age we’ll end up with! But just think, by the time I get there my wee man might be in school – how easy will my life be?! :))

    Enjoy guys :)

I have a question for your Friday post! (If you dont mind, its none of my business and if you dont want to answer it that’s cool too!)

In Claras birth story you said:
“I’m sure when I’m pregnant again I’ll be much less happy go lucky about it. Which is really sad. John keeps begging me to let it be the same joyful and unabashedly exciting time as it was before. But I know myself. And I’ll be on high alert. Searching for any signs or symptoms that something’s wrong. And scared even if there aren’t any signs of trouble (because there weren’t any before I started feeling contractions with Clara- it just all came out of nowhere). I’m scared that I might even be afraid to get a nursery ready.”

That post was a couple of years ago. So… How are you feeling now that its all actually happening?

I posted earlier with my congrats but can’t find that comment to add on my questions. :-)

When and how did you tell Clara?

Will you find out the gender?

Will you cloth diaper again? (I’m a huge fan of cloth diapering- I have 2 in cloth right now- my 21 month old and 3 month old). Will you consider other brands? For my newborn I have LOVED GMD organic workhorse fitteds. He can go 10 hours at night in them without a leak and they have saved me!!!

Do you read any cloth diaper blogs? I’m devoted to “All About Cloth Diapers”, it taught me everything I know.

Katie has posted a few maternity clothes posts in the last month? Do you share the same style?

Do I know them?” Once I told him, Young House Love was preggers, he got it! Congrats from us! As someone who had a very high risk 2nd pregnancy, I totally get waiting. So happy for your family! Clara certainly set the bar high, but there is no doubt this one is going to be a cutie too! Thank you so much for giving us a peak into your personal lives, so many people can relate to you both. A few years ago my sister gave birth to a (big) boy and had a placental abruption. The doctors said they never gave such a large blood transfusion to a person and survived. Anyways, she wasn’t supposed to have any more children and SURPRISE she is due in March. So…I completely understand you keeping this under wraps for as long as possible. Everytime I read Clara’s birth story I cry. I wish you a very happy & healthy pregnancy.

We just had our first in July, and I used your cloth diapering post as a jumping off point for starting up my own stash (since then, I’ve totally become a crazy cloth hoarder- they are so cute!). I also took a lot of inspiration from your weekly pics of Clara – we are only doing it monthly, but every month our little girl gets a different patterned blanket as a background and we put her in a white onesie and photoshop the months on the onesie!
I can’t wait to see how you do the nursery!
