Now Expanding

We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.

Bean Clara

The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.

Bean Sherry

(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)

Bean John

Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.

Bean Burger

Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!

Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!! I am shocked and surprised and elated for you all at once! You guys are great at keeping a secret! So my question is, how long did Clara have to keep it a secret? Did you tell her right away? Did she ever let it slip at school or to family? It must have been hard not to talk about it in front of her for very long. And how did you guys find out? Were you surprised? Praying for a healthy baby and safe pregnancy/delivery!

    Congrats to you three!

You guys got me hooked on blogs, and after reading 95% of what’s floating around out there, yours is the only one I read every day. For a while, I thought you were loco not to take advantage of the swag thrown at you. After reading so many “sponsored posts” since, I know why yours is my only regular stop.

Your voices remain so true, your skin so thick, it amazes me how politely you respond to evil, nosy, no-filter haters.
Some of us appreciate your work without feeling ownership of your personal business or a need to criticize.

Well done on the surprise, feel confident that so many people are sending positive vibes your way!

Wishing you a healthy pregnancy and a simple delivery without the complications you faced last time.

Even Burger is thrilled. He’s trying to hold in his excitement and be cool about the news but inside he’s bursting with pride at the thought of being big brother to another little bean.

Here’s to wonderful family times and new traditions. Warmest congratulations!

Congrats, John and Sherry! This is wonderful news. I think I’ve commented on your blog maybe once before (though I’ve loved it for 4 years – lurker, I guess), but this calls for a comment! :) So happy for you guys! Also praying that your pregnancy and delivery will go smoothly. I know it must be hard to battle the fear of what happened the first time. Way to go – can’t wait to meet him/her via the internet!

Just to add my voice to the 2,000+++ commenters: Many congratulations! And I am so sorry for all the scrutiny you’ve received regarding baby bump/photoshop/the laundry list of other things you’ve had to manage. I think the attitude you’ve shown–being direct while also patient and kind–is admirable and challenges us all do similarly. I hope you’ve turned the post-first-trimester corner and are feeling better!

Sherry: I’m sure this pregnancy won’t be as carefree, but I hope it will turn out to be complication-free. Best of luck!

John: Nice shirt! And a good friend recently mentioned that we were all at TJ and UVA together. Wahoo-wah!

Congratulations! I’m very excited for your family.

My questions is, how are you factoring the new baby into your goal for work/life balance? Will there be fewer blog posts per week, different balance of side projects, or will you just wait to cross that bridge when you get to it?

Thank you both for being so accomodating to everyone’s curiosity and giving us the opportunity to ask questions.

    Wishing you all the best.

Yaaaay! Please take care of you and yours. I am disgusted by the people who are so nosey and rude about your privacy! You share so much, and people seem to assume it’s a free for all. I won’t lie, I’ve been curious, and hoping for this post for awhile. However, it’s none of my business. I’m thrilled for you, and respect any bit of privacy you choose to keep. Cherish as much of this pregnancy you can. I know being sick makes it tough. Rest, enjoy, and congrats!

Hi- just wanted to say congratulations, and that you have another sympathetic ear on this – my son was born 5 weeks early in April 2010 because of a placental abruption (your post about your experience was incredibly moving for me, its hard to voice the tumult of emotions i expienced at that time, so nice to hear it echoed from another.) I’m also now pregnant again and due April ’14. So far so good for us, and lots of good vibes heading your way for a smooth and healthy journey until you get to meet bean #2!

Congratulations! SO exciting! I saw the crazy comments about Sherry bump watch 2013. I love a good “maybe she is” but I am in the practice of letting people tell me their good news and not out loud and annoyingly guessing it. you don’t win anything, not even the baby that you obnoxiously asked about.

    Congratulations Petersiks!

Very exciting! I very rarely comment, and honestly don’t get a chance to read your blog everyday, so this was a fun surprise today! Especially since reporting to work is a day to day thing during this government shutdown.

And it’s funny, since your friends the Bower’s are due in March! What a fun time!

Will you have to have a scheduled c-section since it’s high risk, or will they allow you to attempt a VBAC? and will you be finding out the gender?

Great news all around, and glad you’re past the 1st trimester. Good luck this pregnancy! Lots of people are wishing you all the best with this pregnancy!

not to dwell on the string of comments from last week but I’m confused by the issue with photoshopping your tummy?? I’m not pregnant but if I was posting pics of myself on a blog, I’d photoshop my whole damn body. The sense of entitlement of some people and what they think they have a right to know is mind boggling.
