Now Expanding

We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.

Bean Clara

The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.

Bean Sherry

(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)

Bean John

Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.

Bean Burger

Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!

Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

So thrilled for you all; blessings on this new babe and your growing family! We had some extreme/terrifying complications with our first child (who is now healthy and happy) and I had to constantly remind myself with the next two babies (who were healthy and without complication) to enjoy every minute and not live in fear of what we had already gone through. Thanks for sharing when YOU were ready!

Since there is already over 2000 comments I doubt I could come up with a very original question!

What do you think you’re looking forward to most with your second pregnancy compared to the first?

I’m so excited that another blogger I follow is expecting a little bun. (You’re #4!) I also look forward to hearing all about how well this pregnancy ends for you guys after the first go around with Clara. After my son was born I’m now considered high risk as well so I want to hear lots of happy stories about seconds beating the odds. /happy thoughts

Yay! Congratulations to both of you! Clara will be an awesome big sister! So scary to be in any kind of car incident early on in the pregancy – we went through that with my first child right on the 12 week mark and it was the most awful couple of hours until we confirmed that everything was ok! So happy for you both!
And now the question that was probably already asked: 1) do you think Katie rubbed off pregnancy cooties on you? and 2) how exciting is it to be pregnant around the same time again? oh, and 3) scientifically speaking, would Burger be happier with another girl since he knows how to handle that or would he be game for a boy? ;-)

Went and read that other post’s comments. If I were you I wouldn’t have even let those posts go through. That person was obviously just a troll. If you let them post and get you riled up they will just keep doing it. Have to do what your parents always told you when your brother/sister was aggravating you… just ignore them and they will eventually give up and leave you alone. :)

Thanks Keisha! We’ve thought about not approving those stir-the-pot comments since they’re obviously just there to… stir the pot! But I think in the end we don’t want people to think that we only let happy comments full of love and praise through, so it’s nice to just let everything pop up. People definitely have some strong opinions about the choices we make, but at the end of the day it’s our house and our life, so we just have to do what works for us and everyone else can have their opinions. Just because they get approved doesn’t mean we can’t agree to disagree!

Update: After hearing this sentiment from so many of you guys today (both via comments and emails) we chatted over dinner and agree that you all have a good point. There’s definitely a difference between welcoming respectful and constructive disagreement and comments that are left solely to provoke others, be malicious, or distract from the purpose of this site. We’d never want people who come here for fun and encouragement (it’s only decorating!) to feel let down by any unnecessary drama, so we’re updating our comment policy. Thanks for your feedback!

So glad you’re updating your comment policy…
I didn’t read that when it happened, but just scrolled through it now.
I’ve been reading you every day since Clara was the bun in the oven (and went backwards through all the original posts because I loved you so much), but that made me feel like a bad reader because I would NEVER have noticed anything about that picture at all. Seriously.
No offense, but as much as I enjoy reading your blog, and think you guys are fabulous, I have things to do that don’t involve scrutinizing all your pictures for potential bumps or photoshopping… :)

This news is extra exciting to me as I have recently found out I am also expecting (my first). The news isn’t out yet… so I can relate to the stress of having people speculate.

My boyfriend teases me for referencing your blog often. He will say “This one time… on the blog…” I’m sure he will be hearing many more references now that I’ll be reading and following your family along on this new journey :) It is an exciting time!

One question… since Burger is a “barky dog”, do you have any tips for keeping the house quiet during baby nap times?
I have two very “barky dogs” of my own.

    Congratulations! Thanks for sharing!

And by the way, I popped over to the comments where people were attacking you guys about sharing the pregnancy or not and the whole photoshopping of the belly. Unbelievable. I agree with so many of the positive posts. One in particular, about your blog is about your home and any personal information is a bonus. I absolutely agree.

I have been reading your blog for a few years now. I admire your sense of style, your approach to home design and decor, saving money on your home while making it look fab, DIY, and generally the way you guys present it all with humor and a whole lot of creativity. The personal stuff has just been a nice touch to further feeling like you guys are the best internet friends that I’ve never met! ;) (Well, I guess if you can count at your book signing? No, not the same. Not an internet stalker with a Billy Madison-esq hit list on my bedroom wall.)

I had a tough family situation a few years ago and reading YHL was what kept me in good spirits. My hubby & I are about the same age as you guys and bought our first place in 2010, a year before our family sitch. Checking YHL everyday reminded me that our life was just on pause and allowed me to live vicariously through you guys while we were away from home and dealing with a lot of tough stuff. So, thanks. And keep on keepin’ on the way you are! Ignore the haters. Congrats again! :)

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!! I hope you were able to enjoy the last few weeks of having such an exciting secret. I know when I was pregnant those weeks felt long because I wanted to tell my family but intensely happy and fun to have this amazing news that only my husband and I were able to enjoy. Everyone should get to have that time!

I will ask a question also, for Friday. When you told John or when you told your family, did you do anything clever or just spill the beans (pun intended :)?

    Questions:

Will you find out the gender for planning/decorating/prepping Clara purposes?

How did you tell John or did you find out together?

How did you tell Clara and the rest of your family?

Not including the obvious answer of the nursery, has your pregnancy changed the thought process of what you will renovate in the house next? (meaning if you weren’t pregnant would you work on x instead of working on y because you’re pregnant)

My gyno told me that morning sickness is often caused by a Vit. B12 deficiency! I’m not prego but I am low in B12 (I don’t absorb it well) so my doc has me taking these http://www.seekinghealth.com/active-b12-lozenge.html They taste like cherry sweet tarts! Maybe get your levels checked. Sorry you feel crappy!

I’m taking the Seeking Health prenatals and my sickness was vastly reduced once I switched to them! I didn’t know they had lozenges, but I’ve been super-impressed with their prenatal vitamins, and they are new – they just debuted about 5 or 6 weeks ago. To me they are expensive but worth it!

And as a side note, I’ve never really delved into the comment section until today (as I was trying to comment myself) and all I can say is WOW…what I found was shocking. I had no idea the criticism that came your way in the comment section. Be strong Petersiks, be strong :) I hope you know that there are normal readers out there that come to this blog for the home improvement aspect and not to participate in a critique forum of your body shape, photoshop abilities, calories/fat grams/sodium content of your meal choices, number of hours slept, etc. I honestly am blown away at the “take away” that some get from your posts. I am so happy for your exciting news and wish you the best against all the naysayers out there…I wish that aspect didn’t exist for you. Anyway, please add my voice to those out there cheering for your success!! Hurrah! :)
