Now Expanding

We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.

Bean Clara

The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.

Bean Sherry

(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)

Bean John

Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.

Bean Burger

Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!

Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

    First of all, CONGRATS!

Re: Photoshop drama. Have you considered deleting comments? Perhaps making it a policy to delete comments that venture into personal territory? Based on the years of speculation and your consistent stance on what you are willing to share it is impressive that you keep it cool through all of this.

Thanks Crystal! We’ve thought about not approving those stir-the-pot comments since they’re obviously just there to rile people up, but I think in the end we don’t want people to think that we only let happy comments full of love and praise through, so it’s nice to just let everything pop up. People definitely have some strong opinions about the choices we make, but at the end of the day it’s our house and our life, so we just have to do what works for us and everyone else can have their opinions. Just because they get approved doesn’t mean we can’t agree to disagree!

Update: After hearing this sentiment from so many of you guys today (both via comments and emails) we chatted over dinner and agree that you all have a good point. There’s definitely a difference between welcoming respectful and constructive disagreement and comments that are left solely to provoke others, be malicious, or distract from the purpose of this site. We’d never want people who come here for fun and encouragement (it’s only decorating!) to feel let down by any unnecessary drama, so we’re updating our comment policy. Thanks for your feedback!

But, but, but… there is a difference between disagreeing about rug choices and paint colors, critiquing Photoshopping skills, etc., and feeding trolls. A “we’re not gonna feed the trolls” policy would be reasonable, particularly for your family’s safety and sanity (like comments that would lead a stranger to figuring out your neighborhood/address – it is common courtesy to keep that kind of a thing to yourself).

    • YoungHouseLove says

      October 2, 2013 at 4:55 pm

Thanks Kat! I think you’re right. There definitely has to be a limit when something is dangerous or just plain distracting to the whole purpose of this blog. Something to think about for sure!

That’s great you’re going to finally do something about the trolls, but it sounds like you are only going to moderate those comments directed at you. What about the readers who get absolutely pulverised by your most zealous fans when they (usually nicely) express their differing opinion/thought on something you’ve blogged about? Obviously you like your fans coming to your ‘rescue’, as evidenced by the fact you never/rarely ask them to stop, but the hate and vitriol they spout on your behalf can be alarming.

Thanks Hannah! This new policy is definitely not just to protect us – any comments that attack anyone else will be removed. All comments need to be constructive and respectful, whether they’re directed at us or at another commenter. There’s no reason for anyone to get mean over here, whether they’re defending us or disagreeing with us. Project Get Along is on. Where’s my gym teacher whistle?

    Ok, a couple of things.

    1. I’m so sorry you have to deal with such mean-spirited people. Especially about something that should be filled with only joy.

    2. You all are the epitome of grace under fire.

    3. Having suffered through a period of infertility after having my first daughter, and the large age gap between her and my son, I can only imagine some of the comments ya’ll have had to endure. So, so sorry.

    4. Our little family will keep yours in our prayers. Best wishes for the smoothest delivery possible, and a HEALTHY little bean or bean-ette.

    5. If I had a question it would be, what would you want us to know about your journey to the place you’re at now. What about your story could lend peace to another mother who may now be in the shoes you were in 6 months ago, a year ago. And what have you learned?

I would love to see #5 answered on Friday! I couldn’t have phrased it better myself. My pregnancy/delivery/recovery all had complications. While I’d love to have another baby at some point, right now the thought is still mildly terrifying.

Appalled by the comment thread noted above. Good for you for shrugging it off (something I know from experience is difficult to do while pregnant — hormonally charged!). Don’t let the decor turkeys get you down.

It is so exciting and as a woman who also experienced 3 high risk pregnancies, I don’t blame you a bit for keeping it private as long as you could. Question for you to answer on Friday. I’m pregnant too and have no idea what is safe and not safe when it comes to painting/staining/gluing/ etc for the nursery. Do you think you will show options on your blog of materials that can safely be used by a pregnant woman when decorating something? For example, I have a dresser I really want to paint but don’t know if there is a safe paint I can use or if I just have to put it on my husbands to do list. Thanks and congrats. So excited to see your progress in this pregnancy on the blog.I’m only 2 months ahead of you in my pregnancy and this is my first.

Oh my gosh! I just read through those comments. People are so rude! You could get pregnant, have the baby and NEVER SHARE that part of your life and it is nobody’s friggin’ business. It makes me angry! (So I can’t imagine how you felt). My husband and I have an anonymous blog for our family (where most of our family doesn’t even know the web address) and we’ve kept it anonymous for a reason. There is NO NEED for ANYONE to be so intrusive! But putting that aside, I am so happy for all four of you (yes, even Burger)! Babies are a joy. My husband and I have been trying for a couple years to get pregnant so we can just have ONE MORE baby and we’re having a time of it, so I’m ecstatic for you all! Please have a happy and healthy pregnancy– and share only what YOU feel comfortable with. It’s your life, and you deserve some privacy. And photoshopped or not, congrats on your barely-there-belly. :)

Also in the TMI question category, so feel free not to answer, but Sherry will you have a scheduled c-section this time around due to the previous complications? That’s the scenario we’re looking at due to some things that happened when we had our first (2.5 years ago). Now that we’re trying for #2, we’ll be planning a scheduled c/s as well. But whatever the plan- wishing you the best! :)
