Now Expanding

We’re excited to announce that the Petersik family is under construction again. Yup, someone’s gonna be a big sister… and she’s pretty darn excited about it.

Bean Clara

The proverbial bun in Sherry’s oven is scheduled to arrive in April, and we’re both elated to be growing.

Bean Sherry

(I’ll happily put on some sympathy weight – it’s the least I can do)

Bean John

Burger, on the other hand, has no idea what’s going on. But he’s generally excited about life, so that’s nice.

Bean Burger

Sherry’s first trimester wasn’t without a few trials (a fender bender that had us worried for a bit and some pretty intense morning all-day sickness for the lady-wife to name a few) but we’re so grateful that all signs point to a healthy little bun so far. Given Clara’s birth complications, this pregnancy falls in the high risk category (more on that here and here), but we were excited to reach the safe-to-share milestone so we could spill the happy news to friends and family this weekend (conveniently while Nonna was in town). And now we get to share it with you guys!

Since you’re a curious bunch, we figured we’d answer your questions in a follow-up post on Friday like we did the first time we told the interwebs we were having a kid. So ask away, and we’ll answer as much as we can at the end of the week. Until then, I’m gonna get back to working on the sunroom and Sherry’s going to do her darndest to keep her breakfast down, probably while painting something.

Congrats! That’s fantastic news! I have to admit that I’m new to your blog, but have become addicted. I started from a search for cloth diaper info and went from there! I’m also preggers and due around the same time! All the best!

Sorry for my horrible grammar in the last post! I meant to say that “I have been extra sensitive to your experience because I have experienced the same traumatic delivery….” blah blah blah.

Btw, don’t let the random trolls who say ridiculous things about your request for privacy being hypocritical. Reflect on the thousands of happy comments, and throw those haters some shade!

I had a complicated and scary first pregnancy, too. I totally get the fear of history repeating itself. My second baby was born healthy and I had zero pregnancy/birth complications. I hope the same for you, Sherry! Try to enjoy this time even though I know that can be tough in your situation! Congratulations!

Congratulations! I am sincerely impressed you guys can hold in news. We just found out we are expecting (early June baby and we have a 14 month old little guy) and I don’t want to admit how many people I’ve told. Evidently I’m a quiet person with a big mouth. Congrats again! (Right before I posted this I realized that I almost posted it on my Facebook on accident and would have told the world!….before getting to tell my parents tomorrow! Whoops..gotta love new phones and my big mouth!)

Wow! I know this is a big (scary-ish) decision for you guys. I faced a very real but unknown risk in getting pregnant with our third, so I know what it’s like. I didn’t really stop it with the, “am I just a fool?” until the kicking became really strong. Now that he’s here, I can’t imagine any other choice. But, I can relate to the mixed bag of feelings you are probably having right now (and, even, how much worse that is when you are puking your guts out).

That all said, Bean II is lucky to have you guys rooting for him/her! Congratulations to the world — another Petersik is on the way!

How weird is it that thousands of strangers (including me) are super excited about your pregnancy? Sorry to hear about your extensive morning sickness. I had that too. I hope it’s over at this point or soon will be and you’ll be feeling great the rest of the time. We’ll all be keeping our fingers crossed that everything will go perfectly. If I think about Clara’s birth story I still get teary-eyed both from the scary parts and the happy ending. This time it should be happy from start to finish.

Congratulations! Are you going to cloth diaper again? If so, are you planning to do anything different?

My daughter was born in April this year; it is a good time of year to have a baby! Based on suggestions from a friend who cloth diapers, we were able to even cloth diaper during the newborn stage using these fitted diapers (http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/workhorse.html) and covers until we could use our one sized diapers and we loved it!

So sorry you have to deal with such animosity while also dealing with hormones, exhaustion, and everything else that goes w/ being pregnant! I’ll be thinking of you and hoping for an easy pregnancy and uneventful delivery! I also had a difficult delivery with my first, which made me pretty nervous through my whole second pregnancy, but happy to report that one was far less challenging! Best wishes to your family!

Admittedly, I am not very interested in the ‘state of your uterus’ as I come here to read about your home decorating ideas and adventures. But, with that said, I’m sorry that you have to deal with those types of questions from readers. I just wanted to post to say thank you for all that you guys do to go out of your way to share your home with us!

Congratulations to you both! This is the second month of Hubby and I trying for our first. It’s so weird to go from doing everything not to get pregnant one month to doing everything TO get pregnant. Let’s just say I didn’t know what the candlestick yoga position was until last month…

Anyway I have a few questions since you said ask away:
How long were you trying? Were you even trying?
Sherry how did you tell John?
How did you tell the rest of your family?
Aside from a healthy baby do you have a preference for sex?
Besides the photo shopping in the day in the life post did you do anything else to throw us readers off the baby scent?
Not baby related but… are you reading and approving all these comments one by one?!

Congrats again and wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy and baby.

What is your exact due date? Mine is April 1st, but since I had a C-Section with the first it will likely be a week or so earlier.
SO EXCITED FOR YOU GUYS! I have been waiting patiently for you to announce the good news. I knew it would come sooner or later! So glad now I can watch your family grow again!

Ok, I just have to say, that I’ve got this humongous empathy ‘gene’. So, sometimes I just see a stranger on the street or on TV (say, on the news) or through a blog such as yours… and something about them touches me so to ask the Universe / God / whatever to please pass them a surprise blessing. Something really good.

And earlier this year, after one of your numerous posts (about making something for Clara) struck and touched me so in its display of love and sacrifice – – made me say a big prayer for you two about this… which sounds so insidious and weird… But I didn’t mean for it to be.

And now I’m not sure if what’s making me feel more elated is the fact that y’all are pregnant or that I CLEARLY have magical powers! :)

    CONGRATULATIONS!

    Hi, Sherry and John:

Congratulations! This is such happy news and, even though I don’t know you, I’m excited for you! I grew up in Richmond and moved away several years ago, so it is such a treat to read your blog. Makes me feel connected to my hometown, and it reminds me that there are so many talented, creative people there.

In fact I have been reading for a while, but I have never felt compelled to comment–until now. I am really disturbed by some recent comments I’ve seen in response to your pregnancy announcement. They are unkind, insensitive, and, frankly, hateful. It’s hard to understand why people feel the need to expend their energy criticizing you for such a small thing. Do people honestly believe that you were maliciously deceiving your readers by keeping the pregnancy a secret until you felt it was safe to announce? Do they truly feel that they have been betrayed in some real, significant way? My feeling is, you were harming no one, and your reasons for keeping the news private were fully understandable and justified. I hope these critics will find a way to let go of the negativity. There are PLENTY of things to be angry about in our world right now. Why can’t we let this blog be a refuge from all of that? Reading it surely brightens my day!
