Fab Freebie: Young Horse Love

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week we’re giving away a totally customized painting from a special group of artists. Wanna meet ’em? Allow us to introduce Blitz, Minnow, and Boomer: the artists in residence at Painting Pony. Yes, I said artists.

Ponies Artists

If the paintbrushes in their mouths weren’t proof enough that these Chincoteague Ponies know their way around a canvas (I know, I was a bit skeptical at first too), just check out the colorful artwork they create with the help of their trainer Kyley DiLuigi.

Ponies Painting Collage

Not only do they create one-of-a-kind pieces (with a unique backstory, no less) they also let you add some input about the painting before it’s made, so it’s sure to complement your home. You get to pick the background color and up to four paint colors to be used AND you get to choose which four-legged artist creates it. Kyley also throws in a CD with photos and/or video of it being whipped up.

Ponies Horse To House

If you wanna see these artsy horses in action there’s a video of the painting process (as well as other tricks) on the Painting Pony website. Oh, and be sure to check out their rockstar Dachshund sidekick Ammo. Burger so wants to meet him someday.

Now on to the details for the prize (and stay tuned for another special offer on Thursday):

  • PRIZE: A custom 16″ x 20″ canvas by Painting Pony as described in this Etsy listing.
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PONY UP” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …since this week’s prize is all about ponies with amazing tricks up their sleeves, why not tell us about another animal trickster you’ve been wowed by (whether its a skateboarding dog you spotted on YouTube or maybe even some amazing feat your own pet pulled off).
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 15th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…

Oh my gosh, best giveaway ever!! It’s probably lame to others, but my proudest dog-owner moment was when I taught our mini-schnauzer Taco how to “give me five!” It’s just the cutest thing! Though maybe his next trick needs to be creating custom art? :)

What a great idea! Hm, after some quick google searching, it turns out horses aren’t color blind like dogs are.

I’m constantly amazed by my cat, Autumn Kitty. She takes laziness to new heights! She also tries to call birds when we leave the windows open, and can actually make a pretty good bird call!

PONY UP! I read Misty of Chincoteague sooooo long ago! I wanted to adopt one sooo bad back then.

I taught my Min Pin to sit still while I place a treat on his nose and to wait for my command. Once I give it (go!), he flips the treat into the air and catches it (sometimes).

I’ve seen at a few rodeos a dog and a monkey combo. The dog runs a barrel racing pattern while the monkey rides him. It’s so cute and amazing to witness.

I absolutely loved this the moment I saw it on your blog. I am an avid horse lover, but am terribly allergic to them. When I was little, I used to ride with my uncle and I would start sneezing and after a few minutes, the horse would start sneezing as well. As if he was sorry he made me sneeze!

I’m amazed at my dog, Zoe’s inability to want to do anything exercise related. She is the only dog that I know who hates walks and doesn’t like to leave our front/back yard. I have to keep her active by playing fetch inside! :)

My dog’s amazing trick is her ability to steal chocolate chip cookies. Several times she has gotten them and I had to ask my husband whether he had some. She can pull the lid off of the container and she will set it down right next to the cookies. Naughty, smart girl!

I’m watching my parents dog for the week. He’s so good. After only a few minutes in our house he knew right where to use the restroom. He walked to the back door looked at it, then at us! We knew he wanted out. So cute. And cleaning up dog doo is so not fun.

Our puppy Colby gets himself into quite a bit of trouble, but I have to admit that I’m a little impressed- I think he’s figured out how to sneak around the house without making his tags jingle and last weekend he managed to steal an entire quarter of my husband’s birthday cake that was sitting on a cake stand on the counter without either one of us hearing a thing!

She wasn’t very artistic, but my horse Jill was the mellow-est and smartest horse I’ve ever had. She would follow me around just out of habit, so I could put my 4-yr-old neice on her and let her “ride” Jill around while I walked in front of them. She would also let me lay on her back without a saddle, bridle, or halter, and if she started wandering off, I only had to say “whoa” to get her to stop. She only ever misbehaved when she didn’t want to go riding, mostly by repeatedly tripping and stumbling over invisible rocks. I don’t ride her anymore though, and she’s spending her retirement as a therapy horse for abused foster kids.

The best animal trick I’ve ever seen is with the horses at the barn I rode at in college. In the ring with the college students they were challenging and spirited. When we used these same horses for our therapeutic riding program, they became gentle giants, sensing that these riders needed special TLC.

“PONY UP” … I have a special connection to Chincoteague ponies, ever since I read (an re-read, and re-read, and…) Misty of Chincoteague when I was a kid. My parents even took me from our house in New York to Virginia to see the ponies. It’s one of my favorite childhood memories.

Bella, my cute little black lab mix likes to play “hide and seek” with her ball. I will tell her to sit and stay in one room while I run around the house and hide her tennis ball. When I come back into the room and tell her “okay” she will search throughout the ENTIRE house to find her ball. Sometimes it will take her 20 minutes but she doesn’t stop until she succeeds!

hmm…kinda silly and I know most dogs do this, but as a child I loved how we couldn’t SAY the word “OUT” we could only spell it bc our dog knew what it meant…although I think she seemed to catch on to the spelling of it though too!

There are a few amazing animal stories that come to mind. One that hits close to home, is my box turtle that used to roam free in our house. She was trained to only use the bathroom when we bathed her in the sink, and she communicated that she was hungry by sitting at the dog’s water bowl. She would also climb over furniture, the vacuum, whatever was in her path! Impressive for a little box turtle!

My puppy, Tessie, may not be able to create a work of art, but she is amazing to us! Tessie loves to play catch, but after a long day of working and taking care of our new baby Chase we don’t really have the same amount of enthusiasm for catch as we used to. Sometimes, being the mean puppy parents that we are, we hide Tessie’s tennis ball :( I know it sounds rotten. However, Tessie can find the tennis ball NO MATTER where it is hidden. Behind picture frames, in cabinets, under pillows and even in the refrigerator, Tessie can sniff out a tennis ball anywhere in our house. Needless to say we have resorted to an afternoon coffee to ensure that Tessie gets a good game of catch in no matter what! :)

My husband and I are mildly (insanely) obsessed with pugs, and we love watching youtube videos of pugs. My favorite is one of a little girl pug who pushes a stroller around her city. It even has a parasol attached and a little baby doll pug in the seat. Is it staged? Yes. Do I love it to pieces anyway? Absolutely.

My 5-month old Miniature Pinscher, Chloe, impresses me all the time with how smart she is. It took her about 10 minutes to figure out how to get around the baby gates and upstairs or downstairs in our new house. She even learned her name and “leave it” in just a few days. It’s amazing how she leaps from place to place without a care in the world!

I would love to wins this week’s giveaway, as my husband and I just went to Chincoteague for Labor Day! Those ponies are too cute! As for animal tricks, my two black cats are pretty entertaining. One would play fetch with a little whiffle ball, and when she brought it back, she would drop it on our shoe. So it was kind of fetch meets basketball. What a great giveaway this week!
