Fab Freebie: World Play

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

And the lucky / randomly selected / soon to be quite worldly person is… Briana (who says “London, Ontario is special to me. That’s where I first lived on my own, went to University, met my husband, and I just loved that city. Plus, it has the best spaghetti restaurant ever, Spageddy Eddy’s!”). Congrats! And for everyone else, scroll down to the contest entry details for a sweet little discount the Wallpapered folks added for everyone.

One look at Pinterest and I don’t feel quite so alone in my fascination with maps. So to everyone else out there who digs a little cartography in their design, hold on to your seats. This week the people behind Wallpapered are giving one of you a nice big 8ft x 5ft world map wallpaper kit so that you can add a map-tastic mural to your home. As much as I love the various world map styles they offer, the coolest feature (at least to me) is that you can also get custom area map wallpaper that basically zooms into a postal code of your choosing. So you could order custom wallpaper showcasing your favorite big city – or even the small town that you grew up in.

Wallpapered Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Any world map or custom area map wallpaper up to 8ft x 5ft from Wallpapered (a $400+ value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “WORLD ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …what town / city / state / country / other geographic area is most special to you? Will you always have a fondness for the town you grew up in? Are you most enamored with the place where you honeymooned? Or are you just bursting with pride over the area where you currently live?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, January 23rd at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Wahoo, this giveaway is available worldwide!
  • DISCOUNT: Get 10% off your custom map order with code YHL2013
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Oh my, I am the biggest fan of maps! I’ve been to over 60 countries, did the Peace Corps in Senegal, lived in Mali and worked in Japan in just the last 5 years. Every place my hubby and I visit, we try to find a unique map of the place and have collected around 20 in our travels, all framed a lining a gallery staircase in our home. You may see it here: http://pinterest.com/pin/91690542384827802/

BUT, I grew up in beautiful Chicago, and will always be a Chicagoan at heart transplanted in another place (currently Houston), so I would LOVE to map a wall in our office/upcoming nursery of Chicago.

So many places are special to me, so I’d say Europe: I was born and raised in Paris, France, studied in England, got my first job in Belgium, honeymooned in Portugal and now live in Germany in my husband’s hometown. Although if I really had to choose, I would pick Germany, because that’s where I wanted to live since I was 11 :)

thank you guys for another worldwide giveaway, these make me very happy even though I never win anything :D

To answer the question… I lived in a little mountain town, then on the Adriatic and now live in the continental climate of little but diverse country… the Adriatic coast wins, for sure! (and if I could, I’d like my map to cover the coast with all the islands, but then you get the whole country basically :)) I would love to move back, and I hope we will someday. Here’s a great blog about my funny little homeland: http://zablogreb.blogspot.com/2013/01/little-country-lots-o-texture.html

WORLD ME! I grew up in California but have lived in Seattle for over a decade, and we currently have three different maps of Washington in our house–“The Evergreen Playground”; a map by my uncle-in-law of shipwrecks in the Sound; and a very cool one of WA by a Portland graphic designer. They’re all beautiful and interesting in the way I think one’s adopted state always is–still exotic, but becoming more familiar with each year.

    WORLD ME!

Europe, hands down. I travel far and away, sometimes this globe of ours is like a small rubber ball in my hand, and then I come back home, and it takes my breath away every single time. Maybe it’s the home feeling, maybe it’s the continuity and consistency, I don’t know, but whichever is the European airport I come to from far in a layover before the plane home, I feel an almost childlish joy.

WORLD ME! (first of all can I say how excited I am about this being open worldwide!)

The place that holds closes to my heart in the Birmingham, UK. I was born in this great city then my family move away when I was young. Then by a stroke of luck I ended up back in te city at university. Where, on my first day, in my first class I met the man that would become my husband! We are now blessed enough to be living in the city and this wallpaper would be perfect for our …. Potential nursery…. Fingers crossed xxx
