Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

My parents almost named me Jacqueline (after Jackie Onassis), but when I wasn’t born with dark hair and sunglasses, they changed their minds.

My parent’s criteria for a name was it had to be Irish and only have 4 letters. Doesn’t leave many options but I guess it helped make the decision a lot easier.

I was named after the heroine of a romance novel (not the writer of romance novels Danielle Steele). Sadly, I do not know the exact novel.

I am Lori Fran after my great grandparents, Lewis and Fannie. My given Hebrew names mean love and laughter. While I never really loved my names, I always loved the meaning and I loved hearing stories about the couple for whom I was named.

My name is Angela, which means “angelic messenger.” My parents planned to name me Michele, but my cousin was born before me and my aunt [allegedly] stole it, so now that’s my middle name. True story: I’ve had two complete strangers tell me I look like a Michele on separate occasions.

My name is proof that my parents really can’t agree on anything :p My mother wanted to name me Lacey after her favorite TV character (Cagney & Lacey -I’m told Lacey is the grumpy one :p) and my Dad wanted to name me Anne after my Mom. Finally a helpful nurse stepped in and told them to just hyphenate the two names already -which of course sparked the debate for which name should go first! :p

PS. My parents have enjoyed 30 years of marriage together despite the constant debates :p

My first name is just Mallory. But my middle name has the interesting story. It’s Q. The letter Q. It’s all my parents could agree on. They couldn’t think of anything they liked, and their friend joked that they should give me something crazy and sweet like Q from James Bond. It stuck.

(Also, my brother is named after his brother who died in an accident before my parents met, and my sister is named after my dad — Terry/Teri). I’ve always wondered if any of my mom’s siblings felt left out since none of us are named after that side of the family. :-)
