Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric me! My name means light, and my parents just liked it.. no special meaning. And it’s just “Lucy,” not “Lucille,” “Lucia,” or anything else!

My mom really liked the name Jenny, but it was so common at the time, so when she heard of Jenna, a character on the tv show Dallas, she thought that would be the perfect alternative.

    FABRIC ME!

My name means “fair lady” wich is pretty accurate, but the story of how I got it is a fluke.

My mom and her best friend were pregnant (and delivering at the same time). My mom thought I was going to be a boy and her friend thought she was having a girl. Neither had what they thought and each took the name they had chosen for their original guess.

So, basically my mom named me what her friend was going to name her would-be daughter! I do have my dad’s middle name (spelled differently… I’m Leigh and he’s Lee) because the doctor’s did not think my mom would be able to have any more children. I think that name story is pretty cool!

Real name is Constance after my grandmother but my older brother could not say Consie which is what my parents wanted for a nickname. Conkie stuck…My brothers are Sparky (Donald) and Dirt (John) and we are all well adjusted…..somewhat!

She says that she always wished that her middle name had an ‘e’ on the end because she thinks it looks better. My daughter had the “Anne” middle name passed on to her also :)

Technically, my first name is Ann but I have always gone by my middle name (Elizabeth). Ann is a family name that has been passed down through at least 4 generations. I love the tradition but I am so accustomed to “being” Elizabeth that I always feel like I’m lying when I use Ann in more official settings (driver’s license, plane tickets, etc.)
