Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    FABRIC ME!

My parents are both teachers and had a “perfect student” named Shannon and who inspired my name. I always wished my name started with an “L” because the capital cursive L was so fun to draw!

    FABRIC ME!!!

My first name has no major significance other than my mom really liked it. But because I was the first girl in the family, my middle name is Eve. The first boy (my little brother) has the middle name of Adam. All in all, my parents had six kids and our full names (first, middle and last) have 5 syllables and some type of Biblical name. Definitely a thought out process! And some really cool names, in my opinion!

My parents tell me they really just liked my name “Molly” which is not short for anything, but is an Irish form of Mary and we are Irish. Also, my mom had always loved her mom, my grandma’s dear friend “Molly” and thought she was the funniest nice person she ever met, so i guess I am named for her. I love my name but get so annoyed when people ask me what it’s short for or what my real name is. I’m just “Molly”.

My three bothers and sisters all have family names that are significant as their middle names. I however was just given a name they liked.
I think the year I was born Stephanie and Natalie were both really popular names because I and another Natalie I know were almost called Stephanie and my best friend Steph was almost a Natalie.

FABRIC ME! I went three days after birth without a name because my parents couldn’t agree at all! My mom then remembered her redheaded friend growing up named Jamie (I am a redhead) and asked my dad if he liked it. I finally had a name!

I’m not sure what the meaning of my name is. I do remember looking at a book of baby names when I was in grade school and the closest to it was “Wanda” so I thought that meant my name was really Wanda. I went about signing my school work as Wanda and confusing my teachers!

fabric me! my empty windows could use some awesome new curtains like clara just got for her big girl room! and as a non-sewer (sewer = person who sews, not where the teenage mutant ninja turtles live), i think i could handle your curtain tutorial!

my mother worried that i would be a delicate ballerina, so she chose to name me “nicole” instead of “nikki”, but i have never used the name nicole (except on my drivers license and airline tickets). i was a tomboy growing up, and to this day, she still offers to pay for me to legally change my name to “nikki”. um, yeah, NOT worth the trouble.

in turn, i have given both my sons long names, but we only call them by their nicknames. and history repeats itself. ;)

Shanna Elizabeth Wise Haycraft. My first name UNFORTUNATELY came from one of those corny love novels that have the half naked people on the cover – think Fabio! Thanks mom? :\ My name rhymes with ‘banana’, but I will answer to any of the following mispronunciations – Shannon, Shawna, Shanaynay (sp?) lol. My middle name, Elizabeth, is after my great grandma who came over to the US from Italy. I kept my maiden name, Wise, but changed it as a second middle name after I got married – I just couldn’t part with it. My mom was originally going to name me ‘Nova’ after the car, but my dad put the Kibosh on that one :)
