Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric me! Nothing special here, my dad liked “Heather” so “Heather” I am. My middle name at birth was Linnane — my mom had a college classmate with that name and she liked it. But they had a falling out a bit after I was born so she legally changed my name to Heather Lynn. Then promptly forgot and called me Heather Linnane until I filed for working papers at 15. Whoops!

Fabric Me! My full name is Concordia, which means peace goddess after war or peace and harmony, which is pretty fitting of me. It was kind of a family name on my mom’s side who is Italian. I believe my mom’s great Aunt was named Cordia or Cordie and my mom was named after her, being named Cordie.

My parents were debating between Ann (my mom’s middle name and the name of her grandmother) and Emma. My dad liked Ann better and the staff at the hospital handed him–not my mom–the birth certificate form to fill out…so now I’m Annie!

FABRIC ME! Hello Friends! My first name is a family name, gracing lovely ladies back 18 generations! I don’t have an “h” on Sara, but 3 generations ago our line did have an “h”! When my great-great-great g’ma changed her religion and was baptized, she dropped the “h” and kept the rest! No little children for me yet, but if we have a girl, you can bet her name will be Sara! BONUS: Sara means princess, and my middle name is Victoria … so I feel very royal some days!

My name is Erinn Richele. The Erinn part is to honor the Irish side of our family, and my mom made an unusual spelling back in 1980, way before it was the norm. I love her for that! My middle name has more meaning, though. I was conceived even though my mom had her tubes tied after my older sisters were born. She was told having any more children would be too much strain on her weak heart, but she had faith and carried me to full term anyway. During my delivery there were complications. My mom and I flat lined and the fact that we pulled through was miraculous. Weighing in at 10 lbs, 3 oz and measuring 23 and 1/2 inches long, I was clearly a test to any woman’s strength during delivery! To honor the doctors who saved our lives, (Richard and Michele) my mom blended their names together to make Richele. My name is a constant reminder of the faith my mom had and the doctors who helped her beat the odds. <3

Fabric me! I guess “Thornbirds” was popular when I was conceived, so between that and a love of “Little Women”, I got a variation (Megan). I used to think it was a unique name (means “gemstone” or “pearl”) but not so much anymore.

It makes me think of the names that will be used from “Downton Abbey” these days! Classic. :-)

My Mother, who had already had six children, was convinced that I was a boy. They had chosen the name James. Just in case, on the way to the hospital, they chose a girl name. I don’t think they put much thought into it. I have always wished it was Julia, instead of Julie.
