Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!! My name was supposed to be Daniel because the doctors told my parents that I was going to be a boy. OOPS!! My mom ended up going with Kelly because it was the first one in the name book that she really liked.

I’ve seen two meanings to my name: “fortress” being one, and “dark” being the other. Origins range from Old French to English surname (Hellloooo Mr. Darcy!). That said, my Dad picked it out as soon as they learned I was to be a girl.

My parents chose my name because they said it sounded like “Dr.” could go in front of it. I’m not a doctor, but I love that they wanted a strong name for their baby girl!

FABRIC ME! Both my first and middle names came from my mom’s favorite soap opera, Ryan’s Hope (a soap revolving around the family that owns an Irish pub). I come from a big Irish family so usually people assume I was named after relatives :)

Fabric me! My name is my grandma’s middle name. My middle name Isabel, is the name of my great grandma. My parents debated calling me Isabel Cristina instead of my actual name, Cristina Isabel. They also thought about combining the two and naming me Crisbel. I always wondered if a different name would make me feel or act differently…

FABRIC ME! I’m one of the millions of Jennifers born in 1981, so apparently my parents weren’t feeling very creative. :) However I’m told my brother was really gunning for Tiffany, so I’m glad they just went with the trend!

My name came from one of my moms college roommates, she just liked her name. I hated it when I was younger and tried to get people to call me Ember- ha ha. I’ve grown up to like it though. I like that it’s a color and a stone. All of my sisters names are colors and stones, some are plants.

My name doesn’t really hold any special significance in my family. My maiden name starts with a K, so I think my parents were just going for alliteration.

My name Is Diane and my parents choose it because they were sticking with a ‘D’ theme. Delbert and Dorothy, my brother David and me. I was almost Denise but I think Diane suits me better. Oddly enough, no one at home calls me by name so I rarely hear it. It’s either ‘mom’ from my son or ‘honeybunny’ from my fella. He was a big Pulp Fiction fan.

My name is fabric, because I was meant to win this giveaway! Just kidding. Valerie (my real name) means strong (like valor), and I am strong (not like She-ra warrior princess, more like Rosa Parks; I have strong convictions), so the name fits. I was born on Valentine’s Day, and my parents were going to name me Valencia (like the orange juice), but my uncle suggested Valerie instead, I’m glad he did. :)
