Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME! My name means ‘port of ships’ – my parents just liked the sound of it as they knew a young girl in their town with the name Chelsea. All my other siblings are named after famous singers and sports players…

My mom thought Ashlee was “unique” and no one really had that name. And then 1983 and 1984 happened. In grade school, I always had at least 3 Ashley/Ashleigh/Ashlee’s in my class. On my high school cheerleading squad, there were 5. So much for being “unique.” :)

FABRIC ME! My name (Erin) was inspired by the old Irish saying “Erin Go Bragh” because my family is Irish and I was due around St. Patrick’s Day. And knowing this, my hilarious mother-in-law has coined the phrase, “Erin Go Bra-less.” :D Yeah, my family is second to none. haha

My parents couldn’t decide on a name for me. Then my dad suggested Stacey, after a girl he thought was pretty in high school! My mom likes the name, but doesn’t love the story.

When I was in elementary school, I always wanted a different name. Mostly because no one else had the same name as me. Once I got a little older, I liked my name.

My name is Shannon, and it means “little, wise one.” It’s funny considering I’m on board with Sherry at 5’2″. My folks chose it because kids couldn’t make up terrible nick names for it easily – apparently Harry wasn’t the greatest choice for a kid’s name – sorry Dad.
