Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric Me! My name means to flow or descend like the river. I’m fairly certain it was picked out of a baby name book. My middle name is my uncle’s first name. As a kid I wished I had a more feminine name, because I got really sick of people asking me if my parents had wanted a boy (nope, they had a different named picked for a boy actually), but as an adult I really like me name.

My first name, my mom just chose because she liked it. My middle name, Elisabeth, is definitely a family name. It was my grans name, my mom’s sister is named Lisa, so is my little sister and I have a cousin named Elisabeth a well.
If I ever have a daughter, she will probably get the middle name as well.

My parents picked my name because they liked the well known book and movie. Growing up I really didn’t like it because I was always the only “Heidi” at school and would have preferred something more popular (Heather, Laura, Karen…). Now that I’m older I still don’t love it but I do appreciate the fact that it’s a little more unique.

Marjorie is my full name, I hated it as a kid but not so much now. I was named after my mom’s mom (my grandma) and my mom was named after her grandma too. So naturally my first born daughter was named after my mom too, Lura (my mom’s first name) Lyn (my MIL’s first name).

Fabric me! My name wasn’t always supposed to be Misty Marie. It was originally going to be Brandy Michelle (if I was a girl, it was the 70s and ultrasound technology want what it is today so they didn’t know). Then my Mom heard my name on a commercial and LOVED IT! I assume it was from the movie “Play Misty for Me” w/ Clint Eastwood but she doesn’t remember that. She just loved it.

FABRIC ME! My first name is actually October. It doesn’t have any family significance but actually came from a TV show. Cojack was a detective show in the late 70’s and early 80’s and there was a single character on one show named October. My mom liked it so much that it became my name, despite my birthday being in May. My younger sister was actually born in October and my dad wanted to name her May. Mom said no, so her name is Carrie :)

I was apparently named after Judy Garland, but I changed the spelling when I was an impulsive 14-yr-old. Turns out it was lucky I did because there was a long-running TV show here that had a character with my first name and my married last name. I used to point out that mine was spelled differently so it had nothing to do with me!
