After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Holt Dale says
FABRIC ME!
My name is so very special! With my Mom being an only child, the last name Holt was expiring on her side of the family! While it was originally my middle name, I started being called Holt when I went away to college. Eventually, I married and dropped my first name altogether. I admit having two last names is confusing sometimes but I always have a conversation starter when meeting someone new!
Virginia says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my paternal grandmother.
Cassie says
Fabric Me!
No exciting story to share, that I’m aware of… now I’m curious to ask my parents for one.
Kristy says
Fabric Me! I don’t think my name has any special meaning…just something my parents liked I guess!
Kalysta says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “most beautiful” My parents just heard it, loved it, and changed the spelling a little. I always loved having a more unique name despite having to correct people on how to say/spell it. I loved that it was different!
Jordan says
Fabic Me! It is a word from the bible.
Caitlin says
FABRIC ME!
My name is the Gaelic version of my mother’s name, Catherine :)

Fabric me!
I’m not sure how my name was chosen, but I have noticed most of the other Karens I know are a good 20 years older than me. Maybe my parents were a little late to get on the bandwagon
Sarah Johnson says
FABRIC ME…my Mom wanted to name me Victoria Elizabeth, but my Dad said that would be TOO MANY LETTERS for my name (27 to be exact). So my Mom settled for Sarah (still traditional) and middle name came out of a book.
Samantha Miller says
FABRIC ME!
I love my name. There isn’t really a story behind it but my mom had lots of names she liked and my dad nixed every single one, until she said Samantha!
kirsten says
FABRIC ME! I used to go crazy over folks mispronouncing my name (seriously, ONE person in my entire life has pronounced my complete name correctly on the first try), but I grew to love its uniqueness. :)
Meredith K A says
Fabric Me!
I like that my name used to be a man’s name. Still sometimes is in Britain. I’ve always liked my name, not too common but not weird either!

Fabric Me! Terri is short for terrycloth of course!!!
Sara says
FABRIC ME!

Fabric Me!
My name is a variation of Mary in Gaelic (mary is my mom’s name). And although it looks like you would pronounce it Moy-ra (like they do in Ireland/Scotland/England), my parents chose to pronounce it More-a. I respond to either though; I’m used to it being mispronounced and misspelled! I tell people, “the ‘i’ is silent”.
Alaina says

Fabric me! I was somewhat named after Laura Ingalls Wilder. I used to think Laura was such a plain name and not very common, but I loved the Little House books growing up and I think my name suits me as I am old fashioned at heart!
Lorelle says
FABRIC ME!!
My mom found my name in a baby name book. “Lorelle” means little one in Latin.
Shawna says
FABRIC ME! I was named in the “name your kids with the same first letter phase” – They thought with a Shannon (male), that Shawna fit perfectly. Our town also had: Dawn & Denise, Tammy & Tina, Emily & Elizabeth, Devin & Dusty & David, etc. I could go on and on! EVERYONE was doing it!!
Jennifer Y. says
Fabric Me!
My mom decided to go with a name she’d only heard once or twice and was easy since her name is unusual. She didn’t realize every girl born in the 70s-80s would also be named Jennifer… At least it’s never mispronounced!
Kat says
FABRIC ME! Dad’s choice and my middle name was his mother’s name. I’ve been Kitty or Kat for most of it. ^..^
Leila says
FABRIC ME!!! When I was young, I wanted to have a “normal” name like every other Debbie and Donna, mostly because I was a shy kid & it was difficult for me to speak up & teach everyone to say my name properly. I ended up answering to just about anything remotely close! Now that I’m MUCH older, I’ve learned that people are more comfortable when they’re sure of how to pronounce it, so I just tell them. I now get a lot of compliments on it, which I pass along to my mom. For the record, it’s lee-EYE-la!
Brooks says
FABRIC ME! My name is a family name. Brooks Hamilton West. My dad always said a true Virginia ladies name should be the same forward as it is backwards. I guess that’s why I’m all last names :-P
Callie says
FABRIC ME! My name was my great grandma’s name – my mom’s mom’s mom. I hated that I could never find it on pencils or barrettes as a kid, then I loved it, then I wished it was a nickname for something (I pretended it was Carolyna for a while) but now I get irritated when I meet someone else with MY name – especially when it’s spelled “Calleigh.” Ugh.
Dawn says
FABRIC ME! And… duh. Sun-up!
Janet says
FABRiC ME!
I’m named after my aunt and my moms best friend, as both happened to be named Janet. it was an ok name until Janet Jackson came out with her song Nasty Boys…there’s a line that goes “No my name ain’t baby, it’s Janet…Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty” and after that I was always “Ms. Jackson.”. Made me very careful when naming my own kids!
Brooke says
FABRIC ME! I’m pretty sure my parents just liked my name. Nothing exciting.
Karas says
Fabric me!!!!

I was born on Orthodox Christmas. My mom and dad were stuck as to what to name me until my Aunt Stephanie suggested Natalie. It means “Christmas child” and so worked perfectly with my birthday:)

Fabric Me!
I was named after Susan Hayward, the actress!
Christy B says
Fabric me!
Angie Humphrey says
FABRIC ME!
My parents selected Angela because I was their “Angel,” a description that they might not have used to describe me during my teenage years. My middle name, Grace, comes from my Great Grandmother.
Angie says
FABRIC ME!
I really need some no-sew curtains!
So my name is Angela Dee. Angela means angel messenger. My mom says there are two types of angels in the Bible – angels who deliver messages, and warrior angels. I’m a messenger angel because I talk so much!
Dee – the most confusing middle name. People ask me my middle name-and I say “Dee” and they say, “name, not initial” and I have to spell out D-E-E.
Funny thing: I recently met a girl at work who’s name is also Angela Dee!
Julie Cacioppo says
Fabric Me for new curtains in the living room.
Rossi says
FABRIC ME! My name apparently means “red” in Italian, but I am not Italian and my parents did not know that when I was named. That did not stop me from marrying a red head and naming our daughter Scarlett!
Sarah says
Fabric me! It was going to be snow…. But my mom insisted it be Sarah…
Cindy Riddle says
Fabric me!
My older sisters picked my name. I have to admit I never liked it. Lots of classmates with the same name. To boring.
I’ve gotten over it. Now that I’ve been able to choose names for my girls.
Angie says
fabric me!
Angela Dee: Angel Messenger with a middle initial for a middle name.
Angie says
Sorry – didn’t mean to put in a duplicate!
Lara says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after the character, Lara, from Dr. Zhivago. I hated it when I was little because no one ever pronounces it correctly. It’s always “Laura” or “Lair-a”. For this reason, I wanted to name our daughter something simple. We chose Mia “Me-a” and wouldn’t you know, we get Mya all the time.
Jacqueline says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my dad’s two favourite presidents’ wives, Jacqueline Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt. Which always surprises people, since we’re Canadian.????
I always say I’m grateful he wasn’t as fond of Johnson or Eisenhower, I could have ended up as Lady Bird Mamie Fortier…
Diane says
FABRIC ME! My name is Diane Arline – Arline was my grandmother’s name, and my two daughters have Diane and Arline as a middle name, each one has one middle name, I mean!
