Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    FABRIC ME!

My parents chose my name because they were in the business for “J” names and there happened to be a gymnast in the Olympics that year named Julianne. My middle name has become significant to me because it is also the same as my husband’s middle name: Lee!

My name is my Grandmother’s middle names. Ann Elizabeth. I always think I got the sweet end of that deal; if I had been named for their first names I would be Cleta Irene.

FABRIC ME! I got Leslie because my mom wouldn’t let my dad name me after an ex girlfriend. Not only would that have been weird, but I narrowly escaped the name Lloydette. No offense to anyone with that name, but I don’t think I could have handled a childhood with a name that unique – I already get enough confusion on whether I’m a boy or girl Leslie (thanks, Leslie Nielson!). Maybe if I was Lesley – Oh, who am I kidding, I should be thankful for what I got. :)

As for my Name, It was supposed to be Alexandra (we are extremely distantly related to Alexander the Great) but my parents felt it’d be too long for a kid to spell…. -_- Always wanted it to be Alexandra.

My parents got my name off an old western show (The Big Valley), they also got my brother’s name from there. It’s kind of fun having a more unique name, you hardly ever run into another one :)

    FABRIC ME!

My name Mirullia, pronounced Mur-ill-a, is (as far as I know) an Italian name that means “wonderful.” The name came from my great Aunt, and to this day I have never met another Mirullia. I have heard of some Merilla’s and Marella’s, but I am the only Mirullia currently living in the United States.

My middle name came from my grandmother Gail who my mother says is my guardian angle.

I think that my parents wanted something unusual and not run-of-the-mill. Back in the day when I was growing up I was the only Leah around. And I appreciate that my Mom and Dad had some wisdom to not go with more standard names for me and my siblings… there are lots of little girls running around with the name Leah now, but not too many of us older girls!

Fabric Me! My name is Japanese name and my parents named me after my Dad’s guitar teacher that changed his life. It’s not a common name even in Japan growing up, but I always loved it. And now I moved to Canada, it is really simple name so people here have no problem pronounce my name and remembering it.

FABRIC ME! My name comes from ‘angel’ pretty obvious. Although the legend in my family goes….My Mum’s name is Jilanne and when Mum & Dad were discussing names Dad suggested I be named after my mother. She never really liked her name so she said “no!”. Dad suggested what about Anne-Jill and Mum hated that too. Then when I was born, the Doctor showed me to Dad & he turned to Mum & said “we’ve got Angela” and that’s it. :-)
