After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Misty @ 2brokebruces says
FABRIC ME!
My dad told me that there was a teenage girl that worked at the grocery store in the town where I grew up and he and my mom thought she was just the cutest thing and her name was Misty, so he said that if he ever had a daughter, that would be what they’d name her! I get my middle name, Louise, from my Grandma.
Samantha says
FABRIC ME! My name was just a name my parents agreed on!
Sarah says
Fabric Me! I believe the name Sarah means “Princess” in Hebrew, but that’s just what a keychain told me once. My parents chose my name because my older brother liked a girl in his class named Sarah. His first name choice, however, was Wormy. I’m happy my parents went with Sarah.
Amanda says
Fabric Me!
I think my dad was the one who chose my name (kind of special since the stereotype and my experience is that the guy is less interested in choosing names).
Stephanie M. says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning to my name. I think my older sister who was 11 at the time actually picked it out. I’m not sure what the fascination with it was…maybe because she had a friend with the same name, lol.
Kitty says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a grandfather and a grandmother, on different sides of the family. My names mean ruler of the home and purity.
Matilda Magazine says

FABRIC ME
I was named Sarah after my great grandmother.
KristenL says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a character on the tv show Dallas.
Sheila N. says
Fabric Me! I was named after my father’s favorite nun from Catholic school. It kind of backfired. I think that rumble I hear might be Sister Mary Sheila spinning in her grave right now.
Rowan Wilton says

KBella says
FABRIC ME!
My mother was a teenager when she became pregnant with me and had decided to give me up for adoption… but when it was time to sign the papers, she asked to see me once and then “asked” her parents if she could keep me. So without having a name prepared, my grandmother suggested my name, Kelly Jean. :)
Megan says
Fabric Me!
My name means Pearl…but I was named off the actress of Anne of Green Gables, I think?
Mellissa says
Fabric Me!
I was named after my great grandmother (dad’s gma) who had passed away just before I was born. Her middle name was Mellisia. But, when it came time to fill out the birth certificate all my dad could remember about the spelling were the two L’s. So, I’m a double ell, double ess gal.

Claire @ Claire K Creations says
FABRIC ME!!!
I was meant to be Elizabeth or Anna but when I arrived my parents didn’t think I looked like either so they randomly picked Claire.
Dad rang my grandma (mum’s mum) to tell her and her response… ‘well you might change it!’
She actually mentioned it to me the other day and said she didn’t like the name Claire when I was born but now she knows me she loves it!
Mary Glenn says
FABRIC ME! Please! My name, besides being something I always have to explain, is a combination of family names that were special to my lovely Southern mom. Used to hate it, but now I love that there aren’t many Mary Glenns walking around out there..
Leah K. says
FABRIC ME! The name Leah is biblical. In Hebrew it means Weary. Awesome, thanks Mom and Dad! But I was actually named after my great-grandma Leah who immigrated from Germany.
Anna says
FABRIC ME! No specific meaning but I heard that having a name read backwards the same as forwards is a good luck :-))
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
My parents had a big party and put my name up for vote… could have been bad…
Kristen says
FABRIC ME! There is no fun story behind my first name, but my middle name, Chiara, was my great-grandmother’s name. She came over from Italy with her husband on their honeymoon and she never looked back.
Rachel Palmer says
Fabric Me!
I don’t have any cool story behind my name. My parents just liked it. It means ‘motherly’ in hebrew or ‘ewe’.
dana828 says
FABRIC ME!
My name (Dana) means “morning star”. I was born in the early morning, so I guess it fits! My parents almost named me Nicole because their names are Bill & Penny…Nicole sounds like “nickel”. get it? Yeah…..;)
Pam says
FABRIC ME! No special story or sentiment behind my name. My brother was named after our two grandfathers and I’m extremely grateful that I was NOT named after our grandmothers!
Mary Glenn says
FABRIC ME! Please! My name, besides being something I always have to explain, is a combination of family names that were special to my lovely Southern mom. Used to hate it, but now I’m glad that there aren’t too many Mary Glenns out there walking around.
Kelly P says
FABRIC ME!
My full name is Kelly Noreen. My great grandma (who my mother was very close to – more like a mom than a grandma) was named Noreen Kelly (Kelly was her maiden name). So my mom knew from the time she was 13 years old that if she ever had a daughter she would name her Kelly Noreen. What she didn’t know is that in 1978 50% of the pregnant ladies in the country would also name their daughters Kelly. She was none too thrilled about it being so popular after she had chosen it so long before. Haha!
Bridget says
FABRIC ME! My name means strong or strength. I was born three months premature (2lbs, 13ozs) and my Dad thought I could use a little boost, so he and my Mum settled on Bridget (later we discovered a bunch of family connections to it, which makes it even more apt).
A.J. says
fabric me!
Hello, I’m A.J. and I’m a lady. (Without meeting me, people ALWAYS assume I’m a dude.) It stands for Amanda Jo, after my two grandmothers, but my dad started calling me A.J. before I was born…and I’m glad! I do like my name and for a while went through a bit of monogram obsession. Now, notsomuch. :)
OH and I have some fab vintage chairs that I want to recover so yeah…online fabric store could def help w/that.
Alexandra says
FABRIC ME!
My name is just one that my mom loved. It’s not a family name. Sometimes it feels too fancy for me!
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
Oh my what a great giveaway! There is really not great story behind my name – my parents just liked it :) It’s a fine name, but when there were three other heathers in my class I maybe wished they chose something a little less common!
Olivia says
FABRIC ME! My name was invented by Shakespeare for his play “Twelfth Night.” Shakespeare invented a lot of commonly used names.
Cathleen says
Fabric me! My mother named me a classic Irish name. A bully in school who was also named Kathleen made me start going by Cathy when I was little. When I went to college, it was back to Cathleen! Funny now…
Jill says
FABRIC ME! My mom went to high school with a girl named Jill and just always really liked the name.
Jannan says
FABRIC ME!
When my mom was pregnant with my oldest brother she was practicing baby names in calligraphy. She wrote the name Janna and accidentally added an extra “n.” She decided that she loved it and had to wait until baby #5 to be able to finally use it. I’m sure all my brothers appreciated her waiting for a girl. :)
Kate says
FABRIC ME!!
My name is Katherine, but I have never been called anything but Kate. I’m named after 2 great-grandmothers, and my parents wanted me to have something more formal. (We call it the Supreme Court Justice Test b/c your name has to be formal enough to stand up to that title.) So Katherine was chosen! My mom claims it’s after Katharine Hepburn, so I don’t complain too much. Plus, since I’m a lawyer now, the formality is greatly appreciated for when I’m trying to act all adult like. ;)
Nicole says
FABRIC ME!!
My mom named me Lindsay, and did so on the official forms and everything, but came the time when she received my birth certificate in the mail she realized there had been an error and they left Lindsay off and put one of my two middle names as my first name. And I’ve (gladly!) been Nicole ever since.
Dayna says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a local news anchor. I’ve always loved how my name looks printed because both my first and last name are five letters and they both start with D-A-Y!
Cara Hutchison says
Fabric me! My name means beloved. It also means face in spanish. I love my name!
